Question:
My stomach is very swollen 2 days post op- is this normal?

I am 2 days post op (LAP RNY) and my stomach is very swollen. I look very pregnant. I have not passed gas but I can hear it rumbling around in my belly. Is the swelling normal or do I have leakage???    — beebees2 (posted on March 29, 2006)

Swelling is normal and so is bruising but if you have any doubts, call your doc. My swelling took about a week to completely go down and almost a month for all of the bruising to go away. When I left the hospital the bruising was a small area around my navel. By my first post op appt it was from my navel all the way to my pubic area. My doc was not alarmed and said that "it sometimes happens" If you watch the lap surgery it will give you an idea of what your body is subjected to. I had a web address for the video but can't locate it. Maybe somebody else has seen it on the net and will share that address.

I know I looked like I was pregnant with twins after my surgery. I think everyone varies, but its not surprising if you do have swelling. Make sure you get up and walk around and drink as much water as you can. The swelling will go down.
