Question:
NEED ADVICE ON PREGNANCY AFTER PLASTIC SURGERY
HELLO- I'M 11 MONTHS POST-OP DOWN 102LBS.(I KNOW,I SHOULD BE FURTHER AHEAD).ONE OF THE MANY REASONS I HAD THE RNY WAS TO HOPEFULLY HELP MY INFERTILITY PROBLEM.MY HUSBAND AND I WERE GOING TO START TRYING AGAIN THE BEGINNING OF NEXT YEAR.LIKE ALOT OF OTHER POST OPS I HAVE A BELLY APRON AND BAT WINGS.WHEN I LOOK AT MYSELF IN THE MIRROR I DON'T FEEL LIKE I'VE ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA SKIN.RIGHT NOW I HAVE GOOD INSURANCE. I TRULY FEEL THAT IF I HAVE ANY CHANCE OF GETTING A PANNICULECTOMY COVERED BY INSURANCE IT WOULD BE NOW WITH THIS INSURANCE. SEE, WE ARE PLANNING TO MOVE TO NORTH CAROLINA IN A YEAR AND I WILL CHANGE JOBS AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KIND OF INSURANCE I WILL HAVE OR WHAT THE EXCLUSIONS WILL BE. ON THE OTHER HAND, WE DON'T WANT TO WAIT TOO MUCH LONGER ON TRYING FOR A BABY AGAIN( I'M 32).IF I HAD $20,000. JUST LAYING AROUND THAT I COULD SELF PAY FOR PLASTIC SURGERY THIS WOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE, BUT LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE, I DON'T.ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT.I'M REALLY CONFUSED ABOUT THIS.YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT [email protected] -I NEED TO UPDATE MY PROFILE SO THAT IS AN OLD EMAIL. THANKS FOR LISTENING!!!! — PAM P. (posted on August 23, 2003)

Pam, A panniculectomy only removes the excess skin so I would go ahead and
get it done now. The arms can be done whenever. If you were planning on
an abdominalplasty (sp?) then I would say wait as a baby would stretch
those muscles back out. Idealy you would wait till after the baby, but
only you can decide that. Good luck!

I won a Tummy Tuck in a radio contest a couple years ago. The Plastic
Surgeon told me at that time that I'd not be a good candidate because I
desired to have another child at some point. He said that pregnancy would
be very difficult and suggested that I wait until I decided to have a
child.
