Question:
Why am I not getting full?

HELP!!!!!! It seems like today I can't get enough to eat. I feel like I am not getting full at all. I have eaten this morning a little bit of ham and then a little bit of hamburger helper probally about a 1/2 cup, and then about an hour after that I ate a banana. Then about an hour later I ate a half of a tuna salad sandwhich. Then approx. an hour later another banana. I feel full now. But I have been like this all day, and then I have had a severe headache. Please help. — TONYA B. (posted on January 12, 2002)

The answer to your question requires a bit more background on you. What type of surgery did you have and when did you have it. Is the amount of food you can eat more than you have been able to eat in the past?

I am sorry guys, I didn't think to put in about my surgery date and all that. I had an open RNY on Oct 4, 2001. I am currently down 50lbs. I have come to pretty much stand still on losing right now. My doc says that at three months you tend to slow down. And no the amount is no more than I could eat in the past, it is just more frequent. I didn't drink much yesterday. Only about 3 oz until later in the evening. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

It's funny that you should ask this. My surgery was Oct 23, down 51 pounds. I have crazed the last few hours. Just wanting to eat. I finally realized that I hadn't been drinking the water. Now the hunger has passed andthe water is going dow.

You don't mention whether you are fluid loading or not. If you are not it will really help you with the feeling of fullness and satiety. It also helps with your long term ability to keep the weight off. Read more about it at:
http://www.oregoncenter.com/bluebook.html
Best wishes!

Tonya, you answered your own question with your later response when you said you had only had 3 oz of water that day. The water keeps you hydrated and also helps you feel full. Dehydration is almost certainly causing the headache. I'd concentrate on getting the water in and that will probably help a lot.

Tonya... excellent question.. and the same one I would ask.... I dont feel full either.. I have 8 weeks post op. Now I have been drinking my water and I dont feel that the water helps me feel full or satisfied... My doc told me to cut the carbs as much as possible and protein load.... he wants me to eat most of my food in protein form... I dont do protein drinks.... I have cut bread/pasta and rice to only a rare occasion.... I hope you find the answer.. I will be looking at your responses.... My best to you..
