Is it really bad to eat moist chicken breast 7 days out of surgery?

In a word... Yes. I can't think of any WLS program that allows for solid foods 7 days out. These programs are put in place for a reason, your insides have just gone through major surgery. Do you really want to take the risk of screwing something up?

I was on protein shakes, eat what your Dr tells you to eat. You just had surgery my friend, you can ruin your pouch. Good luck

As the previous posters said, it is ireally mportant to stick to your surgeon's plan. I am 5.5 months out, and I still can't eat chicken. Be very careful. It is horrible to get sick when eating chicken.

Monica, you must not have tried this yet, right? I can't imagine being able to tolerate solids of any kind at only 7 days out. Remember that you're healing for about three months after surgery, and you don't want to slow down that healing. My plan allowed me to start chicken a few weeks ago (I'm 11 weeks out) but it's hit or miss as to whether I can eat very much or any before I have a problem. Chicken, when it is allowed on your plan, must be very moist. Dark meat works better... and stewed in the crock pot seems to work well as long as it doesn't get too dry. Please double-check your doc's eating plan and please follow it... for your own health and sanity it really is best.

Like all others here, do what your nut says, beside, I have NEVER seen a MOIST chicken breast, I am two years out and like Yvonne, I can't eat breast, I have to stick with more moist meat and its the dark meat of the chicken. Best of Luck to you, You CAN do it, stick with your protein drinks.

Unless you enjoy getting sick and getting a second view of what you ate, go ahead. Follow your surgeon's instructions and you will never fail or fall off track of your goal & plans for a slimmer & better you. Good luck. The surgeon's office is the best friend to have for things like this.

Yes its a BAD idea to eat the chicken. My Doctor told me about a guy 5 days out who ate a pork chop and they had to open him up to go into his stomach cavity and fish out the pieces of porkchop. Because it had busted the pouch. They have these diets and rules in place because they know what we dont about our bodies and the damage we could cause.

Please do not eat chicken if you are only seven days out. It is really hard to only be eating only protein shakes when everyone around you is eating regularly but you will only get yourself into a lot of trouble eating chicken this early! ((hugs))

If this is a real concern of yours then I will tell you.To not even think of eating chicken . It will most likely make you so sick that you wont ever want to eat it again. I tried it 3 months post op and got sick. So at 7 days i cant even amagine. And actually I dont want to. Please take it easy and listen to your surgeon and the other posts. Stick to the plan and it will work for you. The rules are laid out for us to have the most positive outcome possible.

I ate pureed chicken breast, moistened with broth within the first week after RNY surgery as per my Surgeon's Nutritionist. This is going back 6 plus years now. Things have changed since then...My guess is that many surgeons do not want to take the time to have special classes in place where they teach you about nutrition and how to eat properly and have after classes to ensure things are going smoothly...It is NOT bad to eat chicken after surgery if you know what to expect and how to do it without hurting yourself. However, if that is not what your surgeon/nut has planned for you...then you need to follow the rules he set for you. One thing to remember is that not all surgeons have the same experience or surgical skills as some and you may have a brand new surgeon who is not confident in his skills...You wouldn't want to risk eating something that is not on his list of recommended foods unless you speak to him first about your plans to do so. If you are already eating it with no trouble, then you are probably doing it right and...NO, it's not "bad" for you to eat. Hope that helps
