Don't be scared. It is major surgery and this surgery was my first ever. I had never been in the hospital before. I'm not gonna tell you that it was easy, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. And after the surgery following the "diet" wasn't hard for me either. I just had to learn to "think" with my stomach instead of my head as far as eating goes. You have done good with your weight loss so far! Keep up the good work and you'll do GREAT after surgery too!

Barry, don't be afraid. I'm glad to hear your losing weight I think that's great. But, I think we've all been there. You lose weight and then yoyo and gain it back and some. This surgery has really changed that for me. I can honestly say I have a diffent relationship with food now. I had my surgery 6/16/09 and I've lost 93 lbs. I feel and look great. I have learned most importantly to eat in moderation. Something I never did cause I felt hungry. I wish you success no matter what you decide to do. But, don't let fear hold you back. This surgery can give you your life back. Donna

Barry. Glad to see that you are doing so well on your own already. That tells me that you are already motivated. I just had Lap Band 3 days ago. I also started losing weight just before-I guess because I hadn't 'given up anymore.' I knew that there was a 'way out' of the body and mind I've been living in. I am now down 22lbs from the first visit with my surgeon on 11/9/09. Keep up the good work and look forward to the exciting future. It may be hard and difficult, but it can't be as hard and difficult as living in the current body. Good luck. So many people have done it, and so many people are happy. Think positive, and thank god that there is something out there that 'actually works.'

Yep....same here.....we all were. BUT YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN FREAK YOURSELF OUT! Not anyone on these boards. Each and every one of us are at different stages and has had different surgeries and have different troubles. So.....Relax! It is like the newspaper...You have been following and reading the Q and A Forums...not the, Hey!!!!! I'M DOING GREAT GUYS!!!! board. Thousands have had little to no troubles. But I will tell you this much..... If you keep telling yourself you will fail......you will. Or your gonna puke.....you will, etc........ So, relax, keep up the great pre-op wt. loss, and start your new life off with a great POSITIVE attitude. You will come home and start this journey going....Pfffff.....this will be great!!!!

It is sooooooo normal to freak out! But don't let others' experiences on this board scare you, most people write in with concerns, so you don't hear of the great things about it as much. This surgery has already changed my life, and I'm only 6 weeks out!!! I thought it would take months or a year or 2 to feel better but I felt better immediately! I think the freaking out is because of the unknown for your body, but I have yet to meet anyone that regretted having RNY, you will do terrific!

First off let me say I agree with all that's been said so far. Secondly, congrats on your success and also for the determination and belief in yourself to do this. The hardest part for me was allowing myself to believe that I'm worth this and matter enough to follow the rules and reclaim my life for me. Take one day at a time...if that's too much, take a minute at a time. You are not alone in your stuggle, fears or concerns. We are all here with you. Good luck and best wishes!

Barry, I agree these boards can be quite alarming and scary. I avoided them before my surgery. Just remember we are all different, surgeons are different/ they offer different programs, etc. If your doctors and surgeon feel that you fall within the requiredments for WLS, then they truly believe that your benefits out weigh your risks. Be confident in both yourself and your surgeon, and follow all their instructions. I am two months post- op this Monday, and I had similar fears, I feel very good. I am very happy with my decision. Best to you!
