Question:
Problems remembering to takevitamins?
I'm pre-surgery phobia!!!!!!!!!! Right now I'm not consistant with taking my multivitamin. So this worries me about my after surgery care with taking so MANY vitamin which I've been reading that people take to stay healthy or there will be major problems. So this whole thing is very concerning to me. Any suggestions? I know there are many people like me that have or had these thoughts? — maree250 (posted on January 14, 2010)

I have one of those pill reminders marked Sunday thru Saturday. Since I
take my vitamins at work, I fill the Monday through Friday and I sit it
right in front of my keyboard so I see it every morning and remember to
take my vitamins and my medicine.

I agree. I have a pill-minder and I put it next to my sink in the bathroom.
That way I see it first thing in the morning and I go ahead and take all my
pills when I brush my teeth in the morning. If I didn't do that I would
forget too.

I work in an office setting and I set appointments on my Outlook calendar.
It works great...especially when you are busy.

Like the others, I have a pill reminder case. On Sunday, I fill it for the
week. If I had to remember on my own I would never be able to keep track.
Best of luck!

I use outlook (but you can use your MSN calendar too) to schedule my pill
times. I get a reminder throughout the day as I work at the computer all
day. I also keep my vits in a pill-minder as well.

I leave all my supplements and medications on my kitchen table. It is not
the tidiest look, and I am pretty particular about that, but each time I
walk in my kitchen they are there staring me in the face reminding me to
take them. I don't work, so that of course works for me.

I have a pill container that holds for 4x a day for a week.. plus I have an
extra large ones to hold the calcium I take at night.. I always remember my
morning one.. as soon as I get up I take my calcium and other small pills
like b1,b12 sublingual and I take to prescription ones.. make it a morning
routine and you won't forget.. then I have my phone set to take the rest
during the day every 2 hours .. it goes off and I remember to take the
them..I would forget or let time slip away without it.. it goes off three
times in a day. (that is all my phone gives for alatms).. that covers all
my pill taking until bedtime.. I never forget it either.. it has just
became a routine of bedtime.. but the three times during the day I would
forget without the alarm on the phone.... good luck.. vitamins are so
important.. I hope you find a way to not forget them.. I love the phone
because even when out shopping or running chores I always have my phone.. I
carry vitamins in my purse for those times..

I agree with everyone - timers on your cell phone are key - my NUT divided
up my meds and supplements into EIGHT different doeses per day - so I have
several medicine cases along with the timer approach. Each spot holds that
times dose - and one large one holds all 3 calium doses which I take with
meals. I would also suggest to ANYONE to have your NUT look over your meds
and suggest how to spread them out through the day so nothing interferes
with abosption of anything else (just like we don't take iron and calcium
together, there are other medications that can sabotage your vits and
minerals). And if I'm being totally honest, even with this effors (and it
takes a good 10 minutes to prepare these doeses every weekend for the week)
I still miss a couple calcium doses here and there. I'm getting better over
time (and thankfully my calcium level is good SO FAR). If carrying a weeks
worth with you at one time isn't practical, at least make sure you have a
day's worth at all times. If you have a desk job - leave a supply there -
but make sure you have a way of knowing that you got all the doses in. It's
a lot to manage, but it can be done. Cheers and good luck to you!!

For me.. I had the same phobia. But something changes AFTER you have
surgery and you know that your HEALTH is DEPENDENT upon you doing the right
thing - vitamins, supplements, eating right, exercise, and etc. Being aware
and even phobic about it now --- should help you to transition nicely after
WLS. In the beginning, I would set my iPhone with 3 alarms through the day
--- so that way I would take them when I needed to. And like any other
learned behavior, after doing something for 30 days straight, something
becomes a habit. I don't even think about it now -- I take my vitamins
everyday w/o much effort or thought - I just do it.

I love this new Vitamin I have been taking. Its awesome, it goes in the
fridge so its the first thing you look at when you open the fridge. You'll
never forget plus, it takes awesome. My husband and kids are all on it
also and they are not bariatric patients.. You could try it now to see if
it would help you... Check it out,

I also use the Monday through Sunday pill boxes, and I don't forget because
my morning pills are part of my breakfast! I take 13 pills, vitamins and
supplements along with a protien shake. That "holds" me for
about 3 or 4 hours, until my second meal of the day.

Use weekly pill cases and have one for day and one for night. Put them in
a place that is the most visible and you will have a better chance of
setting the routine.

I am a very forgetful person and started journaling my ounces in , protein
in, and calories in from day 1. I am 20 months out and still do it. Met
goal in 9.5 months and have maintained since. I write everything down! lol
Best of luck to you!
