Question:
Exactly how many grams of sugar can a person have w/o dumping?
I am 2 months out from RNY, I have never dumped and too afraid to try sugar of any kind for fear of dumping, but...even though I know every person is different, but...how much is too much its difficult to find recipes w/o sugar and anything over 5 gms or more freaks me out to even try. You are close. 7 grams is too much. However, in some chewable vitamins
and minerals, you do have sugar. Be sure to space them out during the day
so you don't have more than 5 to 7 grams at a time. My problem is with
bread because you need two TEASPOONS of real sugar to make the yeast rise.
The only kind of bread I can tolerate now (nearly 4 months out from
surgery) is called whole wheat Lavash, which is like a think cracker like
bread, but doesn't have all the ingredients as crackers OR bread. Instead
of a whole slice of Lavash, I cut each slice into 6 pieces, and that is
enough. I use Splenda instead of sugar, and places like Netrition.com
sells items which substitute for sugar items. For example, I found a
powdered peanut butter with no fat and very low sugar. If you reconstitute
it with lots of water, it gets watery and has less sugar per baby spoonful.
Also, Netrition.com has a wonderful product called Lemon Curd, which
tastes just like lemon merengue pie. A baby spoonful would have something
like 3 calories or less, and about 2 grams of sugar or less.

Please don't be afraid. Some one has scared you to death and YES each
person is different.I am 8 months out. I have lost 96 pounds and I had an
open RNY . I still can't handle BEEF or PORK, well ground beef is ok, and
I have always been a MEAT and POTATOES gal.
However...I have no problem with any breads and no trouble with SUGAR! We
can not simply OMIT these things from our lives for if we do we will
eventually cause our bodies to react in a negative manner maybe years down
the road.
Try Try Try in moderation things you used to eat.IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE...try
later but don't just stop!
There is only ONE hard fast rule about SUGAR.
DO NOT EAT IN THE AM ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
It would be like injecting it directly into your veins.
The pouch is small and bare and everything is absorbed by osmosis * (
remember High School? ) **
The sugar would absorb and go directly into your blood, you would
peak, sweat, shake, maybe get nauseated. If this happens. Drink drink drink
water to flush flush flush.
I don't ever write in this posts much but when I do ...I do thoroughly.
Sorry. NO ONE PERSON HAS THE ANSWERS FOR ANYONE but we call all advise
nicely. If your new to these boards, be careful because some folks think
they can come on here and take out there ** bad day ** aggressions on us.
And some think they are the ones that have all the answers.
I love groups that share and be nice and laugh and are friendly. We should
all be sticking together. :)
I am also be available if ever you need me ....
just request a friendship and I will help with what ever I can. Be safe, be
good to yourself and most of all congrats and enjoy as the NEW YOU unfolds
before your eyes. Good Luck!!

Like the other said you really have to try with me I can do 11 gms but I
have found that if I go over I will be sick to my stomach I love sugar-free
fudge ice cream from the dollar store. I eat one and the rest of the day I
limit taking in more sugar. But your body will tell you when you have had
to much. kay

I had Lap RNY and have always been able to tolerate up to 19 g of sugar but
once I hit that number I get sick to my stomach which lasts an hour and
then I'm fine again. Each one is different, you have to pace yourself and
go by trial and error until you find out what's right for you. Good luck.

I was told I could eat about 4-7 gms of sugar newly po...Actually that was
a bit much the first 3 mos.I didn't eat any sugary foods except fruit for a
good 2-3 years..After year 2-3 I could eat 7-15 gms depending on how grumpy
my pouch felt...At 6 years PO I can handle about 30 gms of sugar...I know
this because, NO...I am not perfect...and i do have my moments although few
and far inbetween...I prefer fruits over any other sweets and stay away
from sugar...Whenever I gained weight over the last 6 years PO...It's
because of sugar! I learned that I could graze on sweets and tolerate much
more that way! BAD BAD habit to get into! I gained 10 pounds in a month one
Christmas grazing all day on creamy peppermint candies! It took me 4 months
to lose those 10 pounds!! If you don't start eating sugar...You will miss
it far less! Many older PO's will tell you that they WISH they didn't start
eating sugar...Try to avoid it! Seriously!

When I eat anything with sugar or carbs I eat slowly and tiny bites. If I
begin to feel at all nausious I stop. I have never dumped and I am 11
months out. I have felt a little icky but I always stop in time. After
awhile I noticed I did not want sugar anymore and only certain carbs.
