Question:
Are there other clear type proteins available - to drink in the liquid phase 1?
I had Lap RNY on 9-17-08 and am doing great. I'm 59 and just got on the scale for shits & giggles and I weighed 247... started at 265.... day of surgery was 254 (lost 11 pounds pre surgery) and now I weigh 247... wow what a trip! My question is I dislike the taste of the Protein bullets I bought. They were nasty before my RNY and now they would "gag a maggot!" I am returnimg them on Tuesday after I go see my surgeon Dr. Roye, who will remove my JP drain. I can handle all the Isopure protein drinks, but I need to know what else besides bullets I can consume that is considered clear liquid. In my 3rd week I am ready for the thicker protein shakes... but these 2 weeks of clear liquids... what can I take to get my protein in? Thanks for any help, Gerry — Gerry Smith (posted on September 22, 2008)

Im 12 days post op RNY. Its a trip. The only clear protein I know of is the
ISOPURE. My NUT STRONGLY said to stay away from bullets. She said the
protein bullets contain protein from the same stuff that makes Jello. Not
Whey or soy. Even if it says NEW-WHey.
Take care

I personally think they all could gag a maggot! I used designer whey during
the first two weeks, my nut said that was fine. But then they also told me
that during those two weeks your body has enough stored so you dont really
need it as much as you do after 2 weeks. The designer whey is ok as long as
it doesnt clump up!

Hi Gerry,
I know there are many different types of protein products out there..here
is one that I am using. ESSENTIAL NATURAL 100% protein. I got it at GNC.
You can add it to cold products. Like milk, yogart, puddings, even water.
I know a lot of people have used products by vitalady. I am allerigic to
iodine..so have to be very careful what I try. My Dr. said it was ok to
also use Carnation instant breakfast-sugar free. It has iodine so I
couldnt. Prostat product is what they gave me for my times in the
hospital. I found that CVS drug stores have it on line but not in the store
itself. All of the protein drinks gagged me before surg and after. I am
now almost 3 months out. Sounds like you are off to a great start..wish
you the best!

I too have a rough time with the taste of some of the protien. I have been
drinking the Kelloggs Protien water. You can buy it in the bottle or the
powder mix at Wal-Mart and other places. Both are not too bad. Good luck!!

I know at this stage nothing is good, but my surgeon gave me my protein
supplements. They are called Protidiet, they have 15 g of protein per pack.
They come in a ton of different flavors. You can order them online. I
always (and still do) mix them with crystal light or diet V-8 splash

I also use the Protidiet, kiwi melon is good and I just mix it weaker then
called for in water. They do have tons of flavors. Take Care and Good Luck

I totally LOVE the Unjury products. 21 grams and about 90 calories. I'm
about 3 years into my RNY and maintaining but need the extra protein even
after all this time. They offer a sampler pack...you might like it. Mary Jo

I had my surgery on 9-18-08 and this is what I tried yesterday & love
it. 8 oz light milk 1 scoop of Syntrax Nectar sweets chocolate truffle
(23g protein 100 cal) with 1/2 of a sugar free chocolate pudding cup and 5
ice cubes blended well in a blender until smooth. The only thing is that I
have to wait a couple of minutes because it is a little frothy at first. I
am on my second one for the day! Whoot! I am on full liquids which
includes milk, yogurt, pudding, custard, and strained cream soups. So,
this suggestion has made my day today! :-) Good Luck!

My dietician considers Nectar products as clear liquids and they are very
palatable. You can order samples for $1.89 each from www.enjoyhealth.com.
You do need to call them to order the samples, but check there website. I
had called them yesterday about some questions that I had and they really
care about their customers. After he answered my question, we chatted for
about another 15-20 minutes on the phone about me and my surgery. His wife
is 7 years out and he had a lot of great tips for me and my husband. I
haven't had my surgery yet-14 days and counting til 10/07/08. May God be
with you during your trials and tribulations.

you can try the ready to drink shakes from wal-mart -- AES - cheap -- i buy
the ready to drink 50 Gram Slam from GNC -- but after your liquid stage you
can get all your protein from real food -- never be under the impression
that you will ALWAYS have to drink protein shakes -- milk, yogurt, eggs,
tuna, hamburg, seafood, beans, are all great sources of protein -- good
luck :)

Hello All, Thanks for the many replies to my question. I was so tickled
when I went to my surgeons appointment 9/23 to pull my JP drain... he said
I was doing so well that he put me on full liquids my second week. This I
can handle with no problems. I was able to take the 2 cases of Bullets and
Isopure back and purchased a tasteless whey protein powder and other soy
protein powdered flavored shakes that my new tool likes so much better than
the stuff I returned. Now my new leash on life has turned into a fun
expierence! Thank you all for your responses and may Our Lord bless you all
in your weight loss journeys... hugs from Gerry

WOW! Great job on your weight loss. i liked the Unjury products. My doc
gave me some samples of some products,
Nectar and the Unjury for the protein, i didn't care for the
Nectar (i used the Kellogs protein drink, make it extra cold it tastes
great) I know that you have to order both online. (unjury & Nectar)
Good Luck!! Lisa
