You don't say what surgery you're having. But whichever one, if you follow
the plan your doctor sets forth, you can be successful. The surgery won't
fail you. But you can fail it by not following the guidelines. So, go
into it planning to be 100% compliant and you'll find yourself in a smaller
size pants in a very short time. Good Luck!!!

Patricia, I assume you are having RNY. That is what I had on May 27. My
bmi was somewhere around 36. I weighte 225 at consultation on 4/14 and 215
at PATS. Surgery weight was 203. Now I am 3.5 months out and I am a new
person...145! I was diabetic, sleep apneac, Hi BP, Hi Cholest. and had
arthritis in my knees. I am still on BP and Cholest. and one metformin at
night and morning, but the galons of insulin I took prior to surgery is now
GONE and dr. expects the other drugs will go away too in a few months. My
knees have no arthritis, my fingers and toes are not numb in bed, and my
CPAP is somewhere in my storage shed, haven't used it since surgery. You
will make this surgery work...it is the best! You will lose the weight and
be a total knockout. I just went to a wedding in a size 12 dress...haven't
worn dresses for years! You are barely squeaking through the requirements
with a 35.8 bmi...so you will move quickly down the scale. Good luck.
Enjoy!

Hi Patricia,
My BMI was like 38? I think I don't remember now but it was lower than
the standard. I had high BP, joint problems, asthma, & diabetes. I
got denied from my ins. but I filed an appeal and won. I was banded april
2nd. You should be ok. If you ever want to talk send me a message.

We don't know which surgery you're having. I had RNY and my BMI was under
40, which is an arbitrary cut off number set by insurance companies. Most
insurance companies will do RNY BMI between 35 and 40, and it sounds like
you have those co morbid conditions needed to have surgery in this
category. You'll lose wt, althought not at such a fast rate as those with
BMI's above 40. Good luck on your journey. Yes, you will lose, but the
first 6 months is the easiest. Past that time, you have you most of the
control over your wt loss, so establish good healthy eating habits during
these first 6 months. DAVE

#1 - your surgery date is my B-day - so it's good luck already! #2 - my BMI
was over 40 - just, but when I started the process oh so many years ago
(took me over 3 years to get approved, etc.) it was 35-36. I went the LAP
RNY because I wanted to loose quickly, get it over and done with and start
a new chapter in my life, etc. I am glad I did. I am very happy that I did
it, did it when I did and with whom I did it with. Congratulations and good
luck.

Hi there! I am not sure which surgery you are having. My bmi was under 35
and though I think when you are smaller you lose weight a little slower.
But, as long as you follow all the doctors and nutritionists guidelines, I
am sure you will do great. Good luck and Congratulations!

Hello... I know the fear you are experiencing... my surgery date is in
three days. Yahoo!
Looking at these some of these posts, it does seem that people with higher
BMI's loose a bunch of weight in a short amount of time, but everybody is
different. I would rather loose my weight slower, and not have the
challenges that most people have when they encounter quick weightloss. Take
your time...enjoy the feeling, learn to listen to your body. I read posts
where people lose 50 or 60 pounds in a short period and then freak out when
the hit a plateau, or they can't change the mental picture of themselves in
their head, they have lost the weight, but they still feel fat.
Just take it one day at a time... Just think how you will feel a year and a
half from your surgery date!! Good luck....
