Question:
When can I take vitamins in pill form?
I'm five weeks out from my sleeve and still gagging on the liquid and chewable vitamins. I'd love to take a small One A Day instead. — Katey (posted on February 8, 2010)

That's a question for your nutritionist. I had rny and I was taking pills
in the hospital the day after my surgery.

I started at about 6 months some people do it from the beginning. Depends
on what your doctor recommends

Your dr and/or nut will have to give you the final word, but my dr told me
that I could start swallowing pills again at 3 months out. Thankfully I'm
only 5 weeks away from that! I HATE taking pills in applesauce. Gags me!
I had rny on 12/23. I hope this helps.

With the problems you are having, I really dont know. My vitamins are
prescription and they disolve in your mouth. I do, however, take almost 30
pills 2x's a day and I put them in my mouth one at a time and take a drink.

Hi Katie, I had MNY Gastric on 12/28/09 & was taking my regular
swallow vitamins right after surgery....they sold chewables at my Dr.
office but he told me if I didn't have a problem & tolerated it then I
could just continue my regular vitamins. I took quite a bit of vitamins
before my surgery. I bought one of those 4 times a day pill boxes &
oad them up weekly. Take first does as soon as I wake up then just
different times that fits in my schedule throughout the day. I was given
so many tips off this website that I changed it a little. Someone
suggested prenatal viatamins so I take one in the am & it has iron,
then 3 times a day I take viactiv chews either carmel or chocolate (it's
calcium carbonate & I was told calcium citrate absorbs better but my
stomach is tolorating it so staying with it) late afternoon I take a
Centrum chewable which has iron too. So twice a day I'm getting iron =
adequate IRON and 3 times a day taking the calcium chews. Target has their
brand of Calcium chews (Viactive) for like $4.50 & the Centrum
chewables are 9.99 for 100, & Target brand prenatal are very resonable
(under $10.00) for 200. I was told since prenatal helps with hair &
nails.....& you might lose some hair after surgery I wanted the
prenatal in me just in case. :-) I was also told that Iron & Calcium
can't be taken together so I just take prnatal w/iron in the am, Centrum
chewable w/iron late afternoon and the calcium chews in between. Hope all
this info helps......both the calcium chews & centrum chewables are
tolorable......much better than the samples I was given from my Dr. before
my surgery.
