Yes, I did feel this way. I had bypass surgery 2/9/09 and I am so glad I
made the decision to do it. I had all kinds of thoughts before, but it was
so worth it. Its a new begining, a new journey. You will do just fine. We
are all here for you.

Being scared in normal. I hope that you will go through with your surgery
as that will be the beginning of a healthier you. I was afraid that if I
didn't do something quick that I would die before I got my weight under
control. I have never regretted my decision to do something positive for
myself and I did. Susan

I was scared but I was more scared of a heart attack, diabetes and a slow,
painful death. I have learned that I can only have 1 (#1 thing) at a time.
I focused on my health problems and didn't have much attention left to be
scared. I was so nervous that they wouldn't do my gastric bypass! I am 10
months post-op (with two hernia repairs at the same time) and my only
regret is that I waited sooooo long! Good luck,

Oh yes, it is very normal. I even wrote out a will before my surgery on
2/25/08. We are here to help.

My RNY was on 2/5/09! I was scared before too! It is normal! This is a
big deal! haaa BUT, I am 42 days post op and have lost 60 lbs and I feel
like a billion dollars! I am so happy I did it and I feel like a new
person! I'd be more concerned if you weren't at least scared a little!
You have done the research, made the choice! Try to focus on the beautiful
life changing benefit you are about to experience! EXPECT THE BEST!!!!!!

It is very normal to be having these feelings. Just hang in there. I am two
years post RNY and it was the best decision I ever made. I am healthier
than I have been in 25 years. My age is 58. My weight was 344 at the
beginning of this journey. I have lost 150 lbs. Gone from a size 34 to a
14-16. How wonderful is that. Haven't been this small since age 14. God is
so good. Two years ago if I had fallen down I would have been that lady on
TV who cry's out help I've fallen and I can't get up. My mobility had
deteriorated so that I could hardly get around. Now I have a 6 month old
grandson I can get down on the floor with and play and I can get up by
myself. I am living life like I had hoped I could. I am off of half of my
meds and the others have decreased. Most of what I take now are my
supplements. Follow your Dr's. instructions to a T and you will do well.
Don't get discouraged if you hit a bump in the road. We all experience one
now and then but believe me the journey for the most part is just the best.
The final outcome is oh so worth it. I have no regrets at all. I thought
about this for five years before taking the plunge and going to my Dr.
about the surgery. If I have any negative thought at all it is only that I
did not do it sooner. So...I wish you well and all God's Blessings as you
take the journey of a lifetime. I know you too will see how wonderful life
can be in a thinner, healthier body that can move once more.

Everyone gets the jitters before WLS. I was so fearful that 8 years ago I
cancelled my operation and wasted 8 years of my life trying diet after
diet-only to gain it all back. Finally I faced my fears and had my surgery
Dec. 09-I cannot believe I waited so long. I had a totally uneventful
surgery, zero complications and I have lost 81 lbs! The best thing I have
ever done. Follow your surgeon's instructions and you will do

when I got nervous I just prayed. I had already asked God to let me know if
this was the right road for me and I got it done. I wasn't scared until the
first surgery was cancelled due to the anestatist not being able to
properly intibate me..(forgive the spelling) HA! But I got thru it all with
prayer! God wants us to pray and ask for help, to rely on Him...This will
put your mind at ease. Good luck! hugs n God Bless

Everyone is different, but I have to tell you, I was very scared prior to
surgery. I had never had surgery before and although I'm very large (like
need to lose 300lbs), I was generally healthy on a normal basis (besides
the co-morbidities). I made a will, told people I loved them, made plans
as to who would take my dogs if I died, etc. I have to tell you, and I AM
knocking on wood here, but I am just over 3 wks out and have had little/no
pain, found the surgery experience not bad at all, and have had no issues
so far. I am amazed. I even sometimes feel guilty to have had it so
problem-free when I hear others having problems OR am waiting for some of
the bad to maybe catch up to me. It IS major surgery, but it doesn't mean
everyone will have a tough time. I hope yours goes well :o)

I went through tourment before my surgery 10 months ago. I HAD to know I
was making the right decsision. If you are realistic about how it will
affect you, and prepared to radicially change your diet - to eat healthier
go for it. I have no regrets. I do understand how you feel believe me -
make sure you know your surgeon well and can trust him, and go for it!

I have mine scheduled April 1st. I retire 3/31 so two big events a day
apart!I can't decide which is scarier! I'll love being able to work out
and stay healthy! I've waited a long time to be able to go down the slide
with my granddaughter! Maybe next spring! Carol

it is quite normal to feel anxious before any surgery. As a healthcare
professional I know all the pros and cons and I was very anxious. But I
felt like it was my only option left. I tried so hard to lose weight for
so long that I knew this life saving procedure was the only thing left.
When I went in for my 6 month checkup and found out that I was down 93
pounds I knew I had made the correct decision. I also want to say that I
had no pain after surgery. My dr sent me home with some very good
medication but I never needed it. Hang in there and keep your mind focused
on all the positives.
