Question:
I am freaking out because I am afraid my band has slipped HELP !!!!
Just this week I have started throwing up just about any solid food I eat (sugar cookies go down easily). If I go back to a liquid diet and successfully keep it down would that mean that it hasn't slipped and I am just eating too fast/much food ? I am self pay and cannot afford another surgery ! If the band has slipped does it do any harm to just leave it alone and go back to a liquid diet? Your input is greatly appreciated! — kassie (posted on December 9, 2007)

The only way to know for sure if your band has slipped is to go in under
fluoroscopy and have a look. There are no symptoms of a slipped/eroded
band, at least not any hard and fast symptoms that are the same for every
patient. If you've been around for any length of time, you know that
nothing is ever the same for any two Band paitients. More information is
needed .. how long have you been Banded? Which Band do you have? Have
you had fills? If so, what is your fill level? The fact that you are
throwing up solid food does not necessarily mean that your Band is slipped,
but it doesn't mean anything good. You need to discuss this with your
doctor, if you haven't already.

I was banded oct 18 2007. I am wondering if I just have unrealistic
expections of what I can eat. I thought that I would be able to eat pretty
much everything- just not as much. I have had 1 fill - Nov 20. I don't
really have a Dr that I can consult without paying $250-$300.Thank you for
your input !!

Peggy, you can email me if you want to. I've been out for awhile, and
there's not a mistake I haven't made. :) I'll be happy to talk with you.

Peggy, If you can keep liquids down your band probably has not slipped.
More than likely you have eaten too much or too fast and irritated you
stomach. My band slipped (with the help of a idiot doctor who did a scope
without taking my fill out....what an idiot) But, I was absolutely not able
to keep anything down at all. water came back up as fast as it went down.
If your band had slipped, DO NOT wait to get help. If you wait too long,
your stomach can erode into your band and it can cause permanent
irreparable damage. I was a self pay too and I am now out the cost of the
surgery, plus the cost of having to have the band removed plus 3 months of
in and out of the hospital and a surgery to have my gall bladder removed. I
have now had my band out 3 months and have gained almost 60 lbs back. and I
am in over $25,000 in debt. But, other than having to have my band
removed, and having incompetent doctors here in the states I wouldn't change
anything about the experience of my band. Do go back to the liquid diet for
a few days, and basically start over. If you cant keep anything at all down
after 3-4 days contact a bariatric doctor immediately. Remember you felt
your life was worth the $ it cost for the initial surgery, your worth the
extra $200-300 to be healthy and if nothing else for peace of mind. Best of
luck....
