Question:
Approved and freaking out!!!. Any words of wisdom?
I was just approved and am really freaking out! I am going to be getting a lap RNY. Any words of wisdom would be most helpful? Thankyou everyone for your kind support! — amysocko (posted on June 7, 2006)

Take a deep breath. Hold it. Let it out. Repeat. :) You are going to
be FINE. Congrats on your approval .. it means that you have taken control
of your life and, while nobody can promise you smooth sailing, the research
you have no doubt done bears out that you have made the best choice for
yourself, and that you have a much brighter future today than you did
yesterday. To distract yourself: Make a list of the things you intend to
do as you shrink down to goal weight. Take your measurements. Take your
official "before" photo. Jot down all your reasons for choosing
surgery. Write down your anxieties as you feel them, and a year from now
you can look back on them and mull over how far you've come. Best of luck.
And remember: if you *weren't* freaking, I'd be more worried. :)

Congratulations! I was so very nervous too, thinking about all the bad
things that could happen. All I can say is think about how much your life
will be different after WLS. Believe me the happiness I experience now
compared to PRE OP life, i am so glad I did it. You are a winner because
you decided to go ahead and take control of a medical problem. Also to let
you know, all the thoughts I had that It would be so hard not to drink with
meals and to consume such little food, really it is not bad at all. Infact
once you get going, its like cruise control. Good Luck and God Bless.

Get ready for the ride of your life, Amy! Just remember to sip, sip, sip
your fluids and walk, walk, walk.
P. S. - Try not to focus on the scale - you can become obsessed and bummed
out when you hit a stall in your loss and you will plateau at some point.
Try to have fun with it - this will change your life.
Congrats again

shrinking right before your eyes. You'll be wondering why you didn't do it
sooner!! :) Good luck, have fun and remember you are now in control of
you!!

Hi Amy!
I think freaking out is just written somewhere in the rules! I had the same
surgery, lap RNY, 11 wks. and 2 days ago and I've lost...officially as of
this am, 61.5 lbs.!! Unreal and so thrilling. I can walk up the stairs
without feeling as though I"m having a massive coronary...I can sit in
just about any chair I want! hehehehee Life has gotten so much better
health-wise. I was scared, nervous...you name it, we've all felt it I'm
sure, but as soon as you're over the 'healing' part, you'll be all set.
Keep praying, smiling, and thinking good thoughts. My Best, Denyse

Hi, Don't mean to get religous on you but just pray and ask for peace in
your heart that you have made the right decision for you. I went through
the same thing, and I put my trust in God tht this was what I needed to
keep me here longer and to have a happier healthier life. So don't worry
your almost there, I'm almost a year out down 155 pounds and I am thankful
everyday I made the right decisions for me!

First, Congradulations!! You are about to embark on the most exciting year
of your life! My advice to you is to educate yourself before, during and
after surgery. I work in a hospital on the floor where they bring the WLS
patients. I am also a Support Group Leader and I see that those that soak
up the information given them do the best and have an easier time. Get
involved with a Support Group and stick with them. All the best to you.
You are on the way to becoming a beautiful person and a healthy person.
Enjoy it!

Congratulations! You have a difficult road ahead, but it is well worth the
effort! 1 1/2 years out, and I am so glad I did it.
Just follow your diet, exercise, and make sure you get your nutrients.

Congrats on your approval first of all! You made the right decision and
your quality of life is going to improve drastically. The roller coaster
of emotions isn't over yet but just try to relax and keep your stress
levels low. The surgery isn't easy and the first few days you may question
your decision (I know I did) but it gets better and when you start seeing
results. I am almost 3 weeks post op and have lost 38lbs. It's been a
huge adjustment but I feel 100% better. I have more energy and my attitude
has even changed. Good luck with the surgery and your new life :)-

Congratulations- there is no need to freak out-- but it great news for
you..you are embarking on a new chapter in your life.
I will tell you- and if you read my profile- I talk about
how liberating this is. Yyou will be liberated from dependence on food. You
will no longer feel compelled to finish all the food on your plate - or be
tempted to eat a whole bag of chips becuz its in the house. Those demons
get banished.
Your emotional state becomes uplifted and you no longer feel that you have
to hide your body- you become very proud of how you look. You have a whole
new
world and a whole new life opening ahead of you, and you should embrace it,
with love. You are going to begin loving yourself and appreciating all the
things - that you felt you were held back from- that you could not
participate in- and you are going to feel wonderful doing them. And men are
going to notice you now
and open doors for you. Its such a different mindset. So do not let
yourself be crippled with anxiety- let them go- and focus on your new path,
and embrace the woman you are giving the chance to finally unveil herself
and live her dreams. You are on the road to unveiling your authentic self.
Get all your anxieties out of your head and body..mentally visualize where
you are going to be and how you are going to look 6mos from now.there will
be days- you glimpse yourself in a mirror or a reflective window and say
WOW- that's me? (It just happened to me again last night) I just can't get
over myself..I look better now than I did 15 yrs ago (even though Im
slightly thinner than I was then- my BMI is much lower) and I LOOK and feel
younger. So how many people can say that? that they look better today -
than they did 15 or 20 yrs ago? They can't. People will get older and their
health will fail them-
and yours will be stronger and better than ever.
If you have any questions or need help or advice or hand holding- please
dont hesitate to contact me..
Mahalo & Aloha ( great blessings)

First and foremost, be happy... you are very fortunate. I am sure you know
this from reading posts on this site. Not everyone gets approved and even
if they do the surgery does not always happen.
That being said... It is perfectly natural for you to be scared and
freaking out. This is a HUGE thing, but I am sure you are and/or will be
prepared for it. You will know what to expect and what is normal... if you
feel something that is not you will know to call your doctor. This a door
you will walk through and hopefully never look back. I wish you all the
luck in the world and I wish you your goal weight, but above all I wish you
health!
