Question:
Do we absorb protein or calcium from milk?
I know there are milk fans and milk enemies. I realize the stuff about sugar in milk. I have been drinking it and still losing at a good rate. So I would like to know what positive effects milk has for us. If we don't absorb either the protein or calcium, why not? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 12, 2002)

My nutritionists all recommend milk as a great source of protein. They told
me that if I wasn't hungry at snack time to try a glass of milk instead. If
you can tolerate it, and many can't, it's a great thing! Remember the old
slogan... "Milk... it does a body good!" :)

I don't know where the rumor started that we can't absorb protein/calcium
from dairy products. That's a bunch of crap. I have been drinking milk
from day one and try to drink 2-3 glasses of skim milk per day. I'm 11
months post-op and have excellent labs and a great energy level. Milk is
GREAT for you as long as you stay away from the 2% and higher fat contents.
