Question:
Can post-ops tolerate this?
Pre op and a MALT fan. I have been looking at labels a lot these days preparing and I noticed that malt has 10g sugar for a serving. I looked at the ingredients and no sugar is added. Do I need to get my malt in now, or will I be able to have post-op? — Cheri M. (posted on October 20, 2001)

MALT is a dry mix you can add to things like ice cream and milk. Have you
ever heard of a malt shake? Carnation makes it, chocolate malt or plain.
I love it in my milk. Have you ever heard of a 50's style malt shop?

Bob, malt tastes like the powered form of the inside of a malted milk ball.

Hmmm ... some people can tolerate more sugar than others. I can tolerate
about 10 grams; more than that, I have diarrhea. Best thing to do is try it
once and see. If it makes you sick ... you may never want it again. Good
luck!

If you are having an RNY, I'd say get your malts in now. I speak for
myself, and from what I read, many other in that I absolutely cannot
tolerate milk anymore. A bowl of cereal with milk or s/f ice cream
guarantees me hours of horrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. The thought
of a milkshake or malt gives me the chills to even think about! I don't
know about DS people, I had VBG in 97 and could tolerate milk but once I
was converted to RNY last year, milk is a definate no-no for me. Hope this
helps!

I never knew their was a powered form of malted milk balls. Many folks can
driink milk, myself included. I drink some for protein on my nutronist
suggestion. As for mourning the loss of the ability to eat any food, nearly
anything can be eaten in small quanties. So most of us can eat one piece of
candy if taken slowly.
