Question:
How long does revision surgery take?
5 years post RNY and have regained. Am considering lapband over bypass surgery. — finallyhere (posted on April 5, 2010)

The lap band can take as little as 45 minutes actual surgery... but the
surgeon you pick will have a real good idea of time as they have to submit
that to the insurance company as part of the process for approval. I had
the lap band, it was removed, then a little of 2 years later had the rny...
he estimated 6 hours and that was how long it took.

I was revised from a VBG that had lost the silastic ring to a proximal RNY
in May of 2000. My surgeon had experience with revisions (which is crucial
in my opinion so be sure and check your surgeon's experience with doing the
type of surgery you want - you don't want to be anyone's test case).
Anyway, as I recall he estimated about 2 1/2 hours but the surgery actually
took less time. It was closer to 1 1/2 hours. He went in through my
original incision (both were open surgeries and my scar is from below my
breast bone to a couple of inches above my navel. I didn't have to deal
with any additional scars.
Hope this helps.
