Question:
Has anyone used Chantix after RNY?
Got bored started smoking and now I am continually snacking, not sure if it has to do with the smoking but it seems to be going hand in hand. — regina6913 (posted on January 12, 2010)

I used Chantix after VSG surgery. For me it was a miracle drug to quit
smoking. The big problem is that it is very hard on your new stomach.
Don't ever take it on an empty stomach or you will become violently sick.
I ended up taking it after a meal with a bit of peanut butter and that
worked fairly well. Just be prepared for some nausea if you take it. For
me, it was worth not smoking since I am intent on improving my health in
every way. Chantix will not damage your stomach, it just doesn't agree
with it too much. Let me know how it works for you and good luck!

Hi there... I haven't heard anything good about Chantix at all. I am on
another forum where one of the members' partner began taking Chantix to
help stop smoking, and apparently it turned him into a raging maniac. So
many other members began posting stuff to the same effect that I would be
worried about ever putting that stuff in my body. It drastically changes
your personality - people who have normally been easy-going and pleasant
become hateful and full of rage and have even threatened their friends and
spouses with physical harm. I'd be really careful about taking this stuff,
if I were you. The side effects can be horribly unpleasant and even
downright scary!!

I've been using Chantix for 9 weeks now. I had Lap RNY Oct 26, 2005. It
really bothered me and made my stomach cramp until I figured out I had to
eat something other than the handful of vitamins I was taking it with :) If
you can't eat when you take it dring a full glass of water as fast as you
can while you take it. It's been a wonder drug for me. I'm calmer and I
haven't smoked in 8 weeks (ok 1 slip up about 3 weeks ago). I started
smoking when I was 14 and when I quit I was smoking a pack and a half a
day. Oh and my dreams are crazy, I wake up trying to figure out "was
it a dream or did it really happen?" Not bad just kind of intense to
wake up to.
