Question:
I'm having lap band surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30
I am having lap band tomorrow morning with Dr Shikora at Tufts Medical Center in Boston MA. I've lost 10 pounds since I began this process and had my pre-surgery testing a week ago. They told me that i shouldn't gain any weight before surgery but I've sort of used this long week as my last hurrah - an opportunity to bid farewell to an old friend. Many cookouts and I think i ate a little too much. Hopefully that won't cause a problem for me tomorrow. I have an amazing support group in my friends and family and am really excited about this surgery. Unfortunately, my husband is not happy about it at all - although he is by my side and will be taking me in in the morning. Any last minute suggestions or feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Can't wait to report my results~! What I'm hoping to get back from some people is the weight-loss timeline for the lap band - I'm hoping to see how much people have lost over the course of time with this. — Lisa B. You are probably still in recovery right about now. The reason for the
pre-op diet is to shrink your liver as well as for you to loose weight.
They will weigh you before you go into the operation room and the rule is
you can not be bigger then you were when you started the process. I was
afraid myself because I did slip a few times doing my pre-op liquid diet it
was for 14 days but for the most part i did good. I didn't have any soda or
Alchohol.
Good Luck to you and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hi, I'm writing because I'm having my lap band surgery 9/9/09 and my
husband doesnot support me, but like you he will be my escort though. He
feels it's all in my head and all my poor habits will enhibit me from being
successful I have been diagnosed with ms and was doubtful a while back of
ever being approved I was determined to do what was required of me.my
mother had a triple bypass she also has sugar, high blood pressure a few
strokes. my dad has sugar also he has other health conditions. I had
gestational diabetes with my daughter but nothing while I was carrying my
triplets one of threee survived. Although I have a friend that has recently
had a lap band surgery it is truly a lonely place when your spouse is not
truly in your corner.I wanted to have this surgery in hope of a more longer
better quality of life for me. With my two children now 11 and eight years
old. I am 42 yrs old my parents live a ways away from me they are elderly.
I started this journey with a bmi of I guess 40 at 263 lbs. now I'm around
145 I'll be more positive in the morning before 9:30 am when they weigh me
my doc wants my bmi to be 25 175 lbs. I havent been that weight since high
school? well I've been rambling on but god bless ylet me know how you're
doing. Ria...

Hi guys. Thank you for your replies. I just got home from the hospital
and I have to say, I feel that the surgery was a piece of cake. I didn't
have any problems with waking up from the anesthesia at all. I stayed in
recovery for a couple of hours and then they brought me to my room. I was
really nervous to take my first sip of water - thinking that it was going
to be difficult. It was a piece of cake - they gave me broth, popsicles
and jello for lunch yesterday and carnation instant breakfast, jello and
broth for dinner. I didn't have a problem at all getting or holding any of
this down. I had pretty much the same thing for breakfast this morning
with no problem. I walked around the hospital a lot and felt great doing
it. I do feel a pressure in my chest and they said that it's due to the
gas from the anesthesia, but that walking should help. Getting up from a
chair and sitting down is a bit painful, but overall, I'm impressed with
how little pain I'm in at this point. Hopefully the rest of my recovery
will be as smooth! Best of luck to you, Maria, with your surgery and
recovery. Please let me know how it goes for you as well. All the best
for a speedy recovery.

hours, I dont feel hungry at all I was just reminded to sip my water. I may
