It can happen at any time. I was just back from the hospital and tried SF Carnation instant breakfast with 1% milk - which I lived on prior to surgery and - dump. I think it was the milk, wasn't ready for it. I am over 2 years out and have probably dumped around 10 times. Trying a new food. eating something I have had 100 times and 101 it didn't agree with me. Not looking at the combine sugar/fat intake, etc. My first was the instant breakfast. The next time and the worst one EVER was transitioning to soft foods - string cheese was my big no-no. I can of course eat it now with no issues, but yikes I tried it too soon and I had a dumping experience that lasted several hours and I thought I was going to die - it was that bad. I really do try to stay within my boundries of for every 100 calories 6 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fat - when I stick to that ratio, I am always good. Maybe it will work for you, too. Good luck.

It should start immediately and hopefully last forever as a powerful dissinsentive to ingesting things that made us need WLS in the first place. Too much sugar and fat for the most part, but everyone is different. Welcome to the loser's bench. Dawn Vickers

Immediately. Had my first bout the night I came home from the hospital, two days post-op. Tried using liquid tylenol w/out having my 2oz of protein shake first and it wasn't pretty.

Some of us dump and some do not...I consider it a blessing although I can tolerate a good amount of sugar/carbs before I do dump...at least I do have a limit. I dump with both sugar and fat so something like cheesecake that is loaded with both sugar and fat will make me violently ill with more than a bite! I am 5 years post op and recently dumped on few bites of birthday cake...Yep! It still works, thank goodness for those times I have a moment of weakness! It happens!
