Hon, congrats on your surgery! It is tough to do everything at once, but for a few weeks, the water and walking is more important than the protein...not to say that you don't need the protein, try to get as much as possible, but add a little more each day. In the liquid stage, you can drink all the time and the protien liquids count towards liquid counts. You can do it because you must do it. You want a healthy body, not just skinny. Protein comes in Peanut butter, protein powder milkshakes, yogurt, milk...look it up online and get it in, you can drink all day, not just 6 times. Good luck. Lyn

At 2 weeks post op. Your going to have to get most nutrition from protein shakes. Preferably Whey protein. I got a 100% Whey Protein by EAS at Sams club, that has 23 grams of protein, so with 8 oz of skim milk that is 31 grams of protein. Also, cottage cheese, yogert, cheese. I ate alot of refried beans with a little grated cheese on top. You may not be able to do a Breakfast, lunch and dinner that is actual food at this point. You sip those shakes (a couple a day) and you'll get the nutrition you need. Hang in there. This too shall pass. Lesleigh

remember things will get easier as time goes by, you may want to see if your walmarts carries super whey protein shots by body fortress, it is only 2.9 oz. and is like 26 grams of protein, I have a hard time finding these sometimes, I love em, easy to get down and quick tropical flavor, or so so it says. maybe for the water part, get you some crystal light and mix it with water. but be sure to get in your protein ,it will give you strength also!!

The best for your vitamin / mineral intake is a good powerful "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA. Has 1000 IU of vit D3, a must. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com Good luck !

You are doing just fine! You are only two weeks out and you will work your way up to the "requirements"...Take this time to learn how to eat properly by listening to your pouch...These first few months is the greatest amt of weight loss and it is important to "try" to get in as much as you can, but there is no need to force it all at once either. Make sure if nothing else you get your vitamins...and some protein and water...It takes a long time to get vitamin deficiencies because your body stores most vitamins and has it's own supply...Protein you need daily and cannot make all the key amino acids that make up a whole gram of protein. So eating meat is important to get those aminos but as long as you are getting some and all your nutrients...you're losing weight! The more calories you take in, the slower you lose. So...No rush, just eat what you can and aim for your goal of protein grams. You'll get there.

Hi again, since you have Dr. Jawad you should have a "G" tube. Are you tubing fluids? Remember you can tube protien shakes gatorade etc. This will help in getting the fluids you need and also a few extra calories. If you have any slim fast shakes with too much sugar in them they are fine when tubed. I personally use Unjury. I take the first set of vitamins with my morning shake. Then around 10 I take the first iron pill. Lunch I take the other vitamins and on the way home I take the last iron pill. This way I am done by the time I get home from work. With our heat you need to make sure and get these in. I tubed about 4 times a day. I also used the timer on my cell phone when I went back to work to remember to keep drinking. Just set the snooze button for 5 or 10 minutes this gets you in the habit of drinking better. Also use a kitchen timer for meals when you start real foods. It really does help, I still use the timer at work for lunch to help gauge my time. Hope this helps, Toni

Call your nutritionist. Mine told me not to worry about counting like you would once you are healed.

I think this is one of the most common questions I see and it concerns newbies a great deal. It is a seemingly impossible feat to get in all of the water, vitamins- some have to be taken on an empty stomach, some not with each other, gotta get in protein, gotta walk, gotta keep the household moving along and now the kids are going back to school. It is a tough schedule for sure. I would recommend cutting yourself some slack and do the best that you can do. Try to find a happy medium between sip, sip, sipping water from the second your feet hit the floor in the morning, walking some, and getting in as much protein as you can. Take the vitamins to the best of your ability and do what you can. There aren't enough hours in the day sometimes to get in everything you need to do are there? If you do the best you can, you won't mess yourself up. Each day will get a little better, a little easier so hang in there. Do the best you can and be thankful you have this wonderful tool.
