Question:
13 months postop

What do those of you who are 1+ years out eat in a typical day? I know for a fact I am not getting enough protein. I have lost 170 pounds. I find that I like to "snack" on pretzels and that "old habits die hard" with eating things with sugar, even though I don't eat a lot of it and I don't eat it every day. Please give me details on your daily diet. I would appreciate it. Thanks!    — ALafferty (posted on August 17, 2008)

I'm 27 months post op. I found a few things that work for mee. My body seems to do better with liquid vitamins vs pills for D absorption, and for continued wt. loss. I'm 27 months out and still losing wt slowly. I've had a few pretzels in 27 months, but rarely eat them now. I searched for healthy, crunchy foods. I found dried peas and dry roasted edamame that are slightly salted, crunchy, and have 6-14 grams of protein per 1/4 cup. Details on these "finds" are on my profile page. Daily liquid vitamins, and these healthy snacks help me. BTW, I still drind 3-4 protein shakes per week to make sure I get enough protein. If you don't think your protein intake is enough, then continue with 1-2 shakes per day. DAVE

For your own health, please try not to eat pretzels, as they are empty carbohydrates.

The most important is a powerful "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement Like VEMMA. You need lots of vit D. Vemma has 1000 IU of D3. You need "mega" amounts of minerals. Lay off the carbs and take as much protein as you can get your hands on. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com

I had LapBand and am just over 2 years out, here is a typical day for me with quite a bit of restriction right now. Remember... tighter in the morning. Breakfast: protein shake Vitamins either liquid in shake or chewables Lunch 2-3 oz of egg salad, tuna salad, or cottage cheese.. still a lot of restriction so mushy foods at lunch. 1 or 2 oz of cooked veggies if I have room Dinner 2-3 oz of baked or grilled chicken, fish, turkey 1-2 oz cooked or raw veggies Snack: I know we are not supposed to snack but I usually enter my intake on sparkpeople and see where I am lacking and try to eat some of that... which is usually protein. I will make a protein shake, eat some protein pudding, cheese sticks, drink a protein bullet, whatever. Maybe a half of a protein bar if I have a craving for something sweet. Hi there.... I'm 3 years out and feel great. My normal diet consists of lots of grilled chicken breast and baked fish. I use it for a lot of recipes but my old stand by 3-4 times a week is just a base of raw spinich with romaine. I use roasted red pepper, steamed asparagas and grilled portobella mushrooms and cut up a 3 oz piece of grilled chicken. I use a low fat country french dressing and sprinkle a teaspoon of grated parmeasean cheese. The flavors are great and i love it so it's an easy dinner for me. I always try to eat my bigger meal in the afternoon so that my salad isnt heavy on me for the evening. For breakfast i drink a cappuccino healthwise ice coffee. I get all the protein from them them i need really but i always keep track so if I fall short one day i can drink a litle more protein. if you snack have plenty of fresh veggies to chomp on. they may not taste the greatest when you first start eating them but you get used to them and when the weight starts coming off again you'll be wearing a big smile. Another great solution is Lean Qusine at Super Walmart. They are about $2.98 a dinner. Their absolutely best dinner is roasted checken with red potatoes. They have just enough to fill you up and its made healthy...MY FAVORITE!!! Eats lots of fresh raw veggies and lots of fresh fruits. Good luck!

congrats on your weight loss --first let me tell you that i am NOT a breakfast person -- never was and can't seem to be -- but i do start my day with my vitamins FIRST - then i'll have a 50 gram slam protein shake from GNC -- then for lunch i might have a half of a chicken salad wrap -- and then for dinner i'll have the other half of the wrap -- i work different shifts every day -- some days and some nights -- if something is going on the grill i'll have a hamburg or sausage patty -- i don't buy rice, bread, potatoes or pasta at all -- so for dinner i'm only having the meat with nothing else -- for snacks i've been having Pringles Wheat Stix at 90cals a serving and 2 sugars -- right now we have leftover wings in the fridge from a weekend party so that's good :) and that is my typical day - i don't eat much and when i do it's mostly all protein -- and if i want to keep my weight off then i feel as though this is what i need to do for myself -- no soda, minimal carbs, minimal sugar and i stick to the basics of the surgery -- good luck to you :)
