Hi Gail, My surgeon had me on potassium at the hospital and then at home.
My level was dangerously low after surgery. I don't know why. At about 4
weeks post op I was able to stop taking the potassium. It is awful stuff. I
took both the pill, crushed and mixed with applesause or yogurt and also
the liquid in my apple juice. I don't have to take it now, but I do mix in
a frozen banana with my protein shake every morning, just in case. Hope
this helps. Good luck!

Hi...my surgeon put me on potassium. First they ran 6 bags into me before
letting me out of hospital and wanted me to take liquid potassium...16
ounces per day! I could not do it because it tasted so bad. So I got
"No Salt" salt substitute, bananas, Boost, mashed potatoes, and
tried to eat foods that had more potassium. Two weeks after my release
from hospital my potassium was in normal range. I do not recommend going
against doctor's orders. But this was my experience.
