Question:
Any suggestions for breakfast protein items to eat?

I am three weeks post-op and on a strictly protein diet. Lunch and dinner are ok, but i am having problems with ideas for breakfast. Any help? I am sick of cottage cheese and eggs dont sit right with me yet. HELP if you can. Thanks!    — Gail M. (posted on March 10, 2001)

You might try fat free yougarts, as well as sting cheese. I've also noticed that Special K cereal has a fair amount of protein..add some milk and I think it's around 10g.

My surgery was slightly different, so I'm not sure if the foods I could eat at three weeks are the same as yours. But, these were some of my favorites for breakfast: canned hash (corned beef or roast beef), the meatloaf or salisbury steak from a frozen dinner, sausage links or patties - the kind you can microwave, oatmeal or cream of rice with a scoop of protein powder mixed in. I got very tired of scrambled eggs, but for some reason, deviled eggs remained a favorite for me. - Kate -

My breakfast is 1 can of Ultra Pure Protein Cuppacino shake from GNC. It has 35 grams of protein, 180 calories, no sugar 4-6 carbs, and very low fat. They have different flavors too. Good Luck!

Try protein that you typically think of as lunch or dinner for breakfast. It is not beyond me to have a ham steak for breakfast, or macaroni and cheese. Being on "strictly protein" is the challenge, since I don't think we know what that means. There are very few foods that are "strictly protein". I eat tuna, salmon, or other fish, tofu, beans, lentils, eggs, cheeses, chicken, turkey, ham, rarely beef, deli meats, milk, and protein shakes like Slimfast for my protein. Flavoring the cottage cheese with some grated onion and diced tomato, or pineapple liquid flavoring may make it more palatable if you cannot have fruits yet. Good Luck!

Turkey bacon. it is the best thing that I have found tyat provides the necessary protein, snd you can eat as much as you want. Two slices are twenty to forty calories. This depends on the brand you buy. I usually eat four slices for breakfast, and it goes down smooth, once chewed properly. You can find it at your local grocer. No fat involved. Also, I cook it in my toaster oven to get it the consistency of regular bacon. Just a suggestion. You will never want for any other breakfast meat.

Breakfast Heaven: Cheese Grits! Use Quick Grits, and when they are cooked til creamy, add in about half a cup of pre-shredded cheddar cheese. Stir and serve. They are so nice after a month of soft "sweet tasting" foods.
