what surgery did you have? RNY? It is not unusual to gain a little because of the surgery trauma, etc. However, you should have instructions from your doctor on what you should be eating.Protein shakes, pureed foods (low fat), always eat your protein first. You shouldn't be on regular foods yet. No icecream or other sugary foods.Try to get 60-80 gms of protein a day. You also have to try to get your water or fluids in. The nutritionist at you doctors office should have more info. There are websites for recipes and cook books just for wls patients.

Surgery causes bloating of both air and water, which takes several weeks to get rid of. You're normal. Congrats!

Hi Tamara, Don't worry about the weight gain. Not sure what kind of surgery you had but I had RNY and gained 12 lbs through the first 2 weeks after surgery. My surgeon and doctor both said it could be from post surgery trauma as mentioned in one of the other posts. Also liquid foods that you are pureeing and eating may have more salt content such as pureed soups. Salt can cause water retention which can pack the weight on all of a sudden. So just be careful of the salt intake. What has really helped me is keeping a journal of everything that goes into my mouth. I list protein grams, and calories. If you're not doing that already, believe me, it is so very helpful. For a short time you can keep track of your sodium intake to see if you might be getting too much. Just a suggestion. It's worked for me. I've lost about 160 lbs now. I keep my calories at 700 to 1000 per day, my protein grams at NO LESS than 60 per day, and always always always take in at least 64 oz of fluid. Things will get easier as you go along. Just keep your mind focused. The best advice I can give you is to "STAY OFF THE SCALES"! My first couple of weeks after RNY I may have gained weight but I was losing inches. Measure yourself every couple of months. You'll be surprised at the difference if you've followed your eating plan. Hang in there. Right now you're just a post op baby but you will grow and it will all be worth it! You can do this, just don't be impatient with yourself! My prayers are with you! Deepest blessings!!

Two weeks out I was on protein shakes, then I went to pureed protein. My Dr is very conservative in the diet. I was only allowed protein and veggies until I lost 75% of my weight. Like the other gal, I suggest you talk to the Dr. and NUT. Good luck!

I had a lap band (not sure which surgery you had) and the weight gain is normal. I lost 20lbs in the months before surgery (just to give myself a jump start). Because I had to be on a liquid diet for the first week I lost another 10, but wow, once I stared eating solids I managed to put on 4lbs! Please do not be hard on yourself...it WILL come off no matter which procedure you had, as long as you follow your Doctors orders and MOVE...LOL. Good luck Kimberly
