Question:
Gastric Bypass RNY vs. Gastric Sleeve

Anyone out there with diabetes and an ileostomy that has had either surgery? Doctor tells me he wants me to have the sleeve, but because of my diabetes, he then says the RNY is best for me. What to do? I am at 266 and am 5' 3" I'd appreciate any input! Can't have DS or Lapband.    — geebee (posted on April 10, 2009)

I would say do what your doctor says is best :) I'm getting the RNY just because I have a really high risk of diabetes and it will pretty much eliminate the possibility of me ever getting it. It also cures diabetes for most who already have it. The sleeve also won't give me as much help because there's no malabsorption like the RNY has.
