Anyone of the following can ask you to diet first...Your insurance company,
your surgeon/dietician, therapists...So...plan on some kind of pre op
diet...

Hi Christina, my dietician put me on a 1500 calorie diet. I saw her once
every month for 3 months. The first month, she weigh me in & put in
the a diet. The second month, I lost 6lbs. and the third month, I gained
3lbs. back. My surgeon requires that you loose 15-20 lbs. prior to
surgery. It's mandatory w/him. The loss of weight will enable your liver
to shrink & make it easier for the surgeon to get into the stomach area
also for mental training purposes.....that is....to get you mentally ready
for what's to come. I hope I helped answered your questions.
Warmly, Ruth

Christina ... Some Insurance companies REQUIRE 6 months Cigna for sure.
Some Doctors also require for as stated before the liver. Which is better
for YOU before n after surgery.

Yes you need to show that you have some control. This is the hardest thing
to do...the surgery is the easy part... One lady in another support group I
follow just yesterday was told that she will have to have 6 months more of
nutrition classes/following...because she gained weight during her preop
diet. She was one requirement away from getting a surgery date.
