I would think that you will have no problems getting the procedure done. I
also have a huge scar from my breast bone to my waist from a previous
abdominal surgery and was able to get the procedure done laproscopically
while the doc did say it took him a little longer then normal time wise to
do the procedure as they have to "remove some of the scar tissue
internally" it didnt have any effect on the surgery. you may see some
additional bruising at the incision sites but it is still better then open
if you can handle it. good luck

I also had alot of scar tissue from multiple abdominal surguries and was
still able to have the surgery -- however it took seven hours and was a
much harder recovery then normal. Be sure and find a doctor with lots of
experience in OPEN gastric bypass (try not to use someone who mostly does
laproscopic) like Dr. Magnuson at Johns Hopkins (where I had mine.)

I also had a lot of scar tissue from a previous abdominal surgery and was
able to have the procedure done laproscopically. The procedure took longer
than expected being as though my surgeon had to clear all the other scar
tissue first but was told that if it was too much that he might have to do
it open. But in the end he was able to do it laparoscopically. I wish you
luck with your surgery.

I had mine done July 22nd. lap. but because of all the scar tissue, it
took a little longer, and he had to make a 7th incision. I did real well
and feel great.

My surgeon removed all of the scar tissue from my abdomen when he did my
RNY surgery. (It was from having my gall bladder removed 24 years ago...
you know - the ugly way).

You are not very specific on where the scar tissue is. I had a hiatal
hernia repaired 20+ years ago, scar goes from breast bone to belly button.
My surgeon had to unrepair the hernia, do my RNY, repair the hernia and
remove gallbladder. Your surgeon is the one who should answer this
question, but I do not see why scar tissue would be a problem. My surgeon
actually calls my old scar the railroad tracks! (he did clean it up the
best he could, looks great now)
