Question:
What to eat

I almost 2 weeks post op. I feel wonderful. I have been sticking to the diet as prescribed by my surgeon. Does any one have suggestions on what foods I can eat? After 2 weeks can you mix the blended foods and soft foods? Also how long after surgery can you eat salad? Thanks for the help.    — 2bskinny (posted on February 18, 2006)

Katrina, For the fisrst 6 wks my doctor had me on pureed foods or soft foods. I ate Cottage Cheese, low fat, beans (if you eat refried, eat the non fat kind), eggs scrambled, sugar free pudding. I never drank protein shakes. I was able to eat spinach salads 6 wks out but my tummy is awesome. Try Butter lettuce first. Keep up the good work.

Hi! I had surgery on 02/06/06. I am still in the liquid phase of my diet. I believe that I start pureed foods next week for about 2 weeks, then soft foods for 2 and then regular foods. It is my understanding that you do not want anything that needs to be chewed at this early stage. The way that my diet is setup you add something new to what you already have. With that being said, it would stand to reason that you could use blended (pureed) and soft foods. Of course, check with your surgeon or nutrition for YOUR specific requirements. Basically, I use the protein meal replacements (3 per day) from my doctor or we are also allowed to use Slim Fast (For Low Carb Diets only!!!). This particular version of Slim Fast has 20g of Protein and 1 g of Sugar. I eat Cream of Chicen soup, Chicken/Beef Broth, Campbell's Select Red Pepper and Black Bean soup, Yoplait Light yogurt, Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt, Sugar Free Popcicles. I think that's pretty much it. I would also be thrilled for new ideas. Best of Luck....Tammy

I went back to my nutirtionist at 2 weeks to discuss food plan. That really is the best source. Soft foods is definatley the next step.
