Question:
What kind of questions will the psychologist ask? This is my last pre-op test.
He told me he is going to give me a test and I want to know what kind of questions he's going to ask. I need to be ready. Thanx — Claudia (posted on January 10, 2006)

Hi Claudia the other person posted a lot. I can tell you first you need to
be honest with yourself and answer the questions as they are if you have
issues then he/she can help you work through them. True enough if you have
major issues like depression and stuff this will postpone your surgery.
However if you normal like most of us and have life issues just do what i
did answer the questions on the test they way you think they want to hear
and when he interviews you have no problems or issues make out like life if
great.
The reason for this test is that WLS is a life changing event some people
are not good with change. So people have issues that need to be addressed
before the step in to this with both feet. So it is not a bad thing. Well
i hope this helped if you care to talk more email me and will be glad to
give you futher advice.

I had to take the MMPI and it is long and kind of boring, but there is no
way to study or prepare for it. Bring along a bottle of water and be well
rested if possible. Just be honest with the answers and you will sail
through it with no problem. Good luck!

I only had to answer about ten questions and I answered truthfully. This
isn't the kind of test you study for.....just be honest. I will say that
when they asked if I had ever suffered from depression, I hesitated because
we all refer to 'being depressed" about our weight. I have never been
diagnosed or treated for depression so I answered no. The questions were
pretty simple and straight forward.

Relax. Just answer the questions truthfully.

The psychologist asked me to explain to him how the surgery worked and how
it was done. He asked me what my goal weight was. He wanted to make sure my
ideas were realistic, and wasn't thinking that this was a miracle easy way
out basically.

My psychologist was very insistent that I realize that the surgery is not
magic, only a tool. It still takes a lot of work & vigilence to keep it
off.

My psychologist just asked general questions about the surgery and my
knowlege of the diet.
The most important thing that he told me was that he would be there for me
before the surgery as well as after the surgery.
I am 5 days post op. I've been having a meltdown for the last couple of
days. I called him and he talked to me on the phone for at least 30
minutes. He explained the emotional ups and downs. He related it to post
partum depression. It made me feel better just talking to him.

I was very nervous when I had to go. I just answered the questions he
asked truthfully and the 1 1/2 hour session went very fast. He did try to
trick me in the beginning he asked me to remember three words chair, rock,
scissors and I wondered what for. At the end of the session he asked me to
repeat the words he asked me to remember I answered. Just take a deep
breath and be yourself.
