Question:
How much food should I be eating?
I am 6 weeks post-op. I have just started eating regular food as per my surgeon. I know I need to choose healthy foods but I do not know how much food or how often I should be eating? Do I need to count calories? Should I eat if I'm not hungry? I only feel hungry in the morning. Should I limit my carbohydrate intake? I completely avoid sugar for fear of dumping. My surgeon hasn't given me any guidelines on this. Please help. — MICHELLE R. (posted on July 1, 2001)

Well I would say that as long as you choose healty foods I wouldn't worry
about calories. They say that you should eat at least 3 times a day, I
think mostly to start forming good habits. Eat slowly and eat until your
full, then stop. I would try to avoid raw veggies, fruit, and beef or tough
stringy meats for a little while longer. My nutrionist said to try one new
food item at a time that way if you can't tolerate something you know what
it is. As far as the carbs go it is a good idea to avoid them, at least the
ones made from flour or meal. in other words, rice, potatoes, veggies these
are good starches. Hope this helps you out some, good luck
