Question:
Exactly how may calories or how much food should one be eating at 2 weeks post-op?
I too am having a hard time getting in enough protein. I hate pureed foods! I know that I am not getting enough protein( the shakes are terrible! I am lactose intolerant,so milk products are a problem for me also). I do not feel like I am losing weight fast enough, even though I feel very deprived. I posted previously that my surgeon has recommended 4 tablespoons or 2 oz. of food at each meal(3 times per day) followed by 2 oz. of skim milk, 1/2 hour later. Is this bad advice? Please help! I don't know what I should be eating or how much! — MICHELLE R. (posted on June 3, 2001)

i wouldnt say it was bad advice especially for so soon post op though i do
not understand why the milk...pehaps for the protein? as for the
intolerance, can you handle yogurt or cheese? at 2 weeks post op i was
allowed yogurt, cottage cheese and string cheese. all of these have protein
especially the cottage cheese. tuna is also very high in protein. i make
mine in the food processor so it is very fine. i add helmanns lite mayo and
celery and onion and eat it on crackers. scrambled eggs or egg salad is
good too. i believe tuna has about 15g, an egg has 7, yogurt 6, slice of
thick american cheese 5, cottage cheese 15. some brands may differ a gram
or two. i hope this helps you.

Hi, I am 1 week and 3 days post-op. My dr. has given me the o.k. to eat
half a cup of creamed soup. My breakfast is one half cup of cream of
chicken soup and two unsalted crackers. That's about the same for lunch
and dinner. I snack on sugarfree Jello and sugarfree popsicles. I also
drink within the day about 64 ounces. I am not able to eat cream of wheat
cereal it makes me gag. Hope this has helped. I also had my surgery done
Lap.
