Question:
How can I get Healthnet to pay for my post-op plastic surgery?
How can I get Healthnet Insurance to pay for my post-op plastic surgery?... And does anyone know of a GREAT plastic surgeon in the Connecticut-New York area? — gossypgyrl (posted on July 10, 2009)

From your question I surmise your insurance doesn't cover cosmetic
(plastic) surgery. You need to find out if they cover it when it's a case
of medical necessity. They should answer this question for you over the
phone, or it may be in your insur handbook if you have one. I've heard a
lot of insur companies will pay for a panniculectomy but not the tummy tuck
part. Several people choose to have the TT done with the panni because the
total cost is less when part of the surgery is covered by the insurance.
Medical necessity would be something like repetitive rashes that won't heal
or stay healed, overhanging skin that is painful and/or interferes with
daily life (walking, exercising, etc). Other parts of the body are tougher
to sell but not unheard of. A breast lift may be covered because of rashes
as well. Documentation is the key. See your doc every time you have a
health related issue with your excess skin and take photos. Good luck to
you.
