Question:
wheat bread?? OK on pouch??

I know that carbs are not part of the main diet plan, but I am three months out of RNY and have lost 53 lbs (half way to goal)...I was wondering if wheat bread is tolerable to eat? Is it any easier than white bread? I was wondering about the whole grains versus the white breads...I guess a little toast sounds good once in a blue moon. Can anybody help??    — newleaseonlife (posted on April 8, 2009)

I am also 3 months out and I have lost 55 lbs. I started eating very small amounts of bread about a month ago. I don't eat very much at a time. I have one slice and I toast it well. I buy SaraLee 45 calorie light & delightful. It's real thin and only 9 carbs for one slice (the yogurt I eat has 20 carbs so i don't think that one slice of bread is hurting me). I make a little half sandwich out of it usually. My doctor says to stay away from carbs because they make you fill full and make you feel hungry sooner. I have found that yes, it may make me full but it does not make me feel hungry sooner by any means. I just talked with him the other day about eating bread and he told me as long as I can tolerate it well, it's fine. I also don't eat bread everyday, it's just every now and then when i feel a craving for a sandwich or something. I also like to eat Melba Toast.

I had no problem with wheat bread weather it was soft or toast. I used to eat cheese toast alot and found that that would go down good. You just have to experiment and see what works for you.

Carbs are not a part of the main diet plan? Maybe not yours, but for mine they are an important part of my health and well being! I ate complex carbohydrates right from day 1 in the hospital...Fiberous food was allowed at 3 months after staple lines and stitches healed...So at that point I was allowed fiberous friuts like grapefruit and oranges, whole grains, flax and seed, wheat germ, crackers and cereals, nuts and beans...I do NOT eat simple carbs like white bread or sugars except in moderation...But complex carbs I eat daily with every meal and snacks...Complex carbs are a important part of all diets for nutrition...Your main meals should focus on more protein than complex carbs, but yes...you should eat whole grain breads over white bread...It is simple carbs you should greatly limit...I was eating 1/2 a sandwich at 3 mos out...Today I had a 6 inch turkey club sub on whole wheat today for lunch! I don't expect to gain any weight at all...as I eat sandwiches on whole grain breads often.
