Question:
Has anyone had this surgery that has atrial fibrilation?
I have atrial fibrilation where my heart has arrythmias. I have been told by a doctor that the surgery may correct this. I am a bit scared about this. Has anyone had the surgery that had a fib at the time of surgery? How did it turn out? Did it cure it? — kandymc (posted on October 13, 2008)

I did not have anything before surgery, but after my parathyroid stoped
producing the hormone to absorb calcium so it caused my heart to go into
abnormal rhythm's which is called Nonsustaining Vetack which is Fatal if
they do not get it back in rhythm so I need to take alot of extra calcium
to even keep it at a low normal. But anyway I have had many surgeries after
that and everything has went fine, but I sure will be praying for you to
have peace about it.

I have A. Fib which is well controlled with medications. I also have daily
bouts of palpitations which my cardiologist is not concerned about. I did
fine during and after surgery. My biggest problem was after surgery, my
blood pressure plummeted (93/54) and I felt awful. One of the meds I take
for A. Fib to lower my heart rate also lowers blood pressure. They have had
to cut the dose from 1 pill twice a day to 1/2 pill each day. My heart rate
has increased, but so far no A. Fib. I am 7 weeks post RNY and still
fighting the low blood pressure and I till continue to have those dang
palpitations--they drive me nuts. My cardiologist told me that this surgery
and losing weight will not help my A. Fib. Good Luck
