Question:
I ate 8 oz of ice...without even thinking.
I feel so terrible. do you think I overstretched my stitches. I never felt "full" I just kept popping the ice in my mouth. Now I realize I need to do 5 -15 cc (l tsp to l tblsp) of water every 5-10 minutes while awake. I am so worried. — kublai92 (posted on March 19, 2006)

HONEY I KNOW THIS IS NEW TO YOU AND EVERYTHING IS VERY SCARY BUT YOU ARE
OK. ICE IS FROZEN WATER. IT WILL MELT DOWN YOUR THROAT AND PRETTY MUCH PASS
RIGHT THROUGH YOUR POUCH. I THINK YOU ARE GOING TO BE FINE. GOOD LUCK WITH
YOUR JOURNEY YOU ARE GOING TO DO WELL. I THINK IT IS GREAT THE WAY YOU ARE
BEING CAUTOUS. GOOD LUCK

If eating ice is a new thing for you, you should ask your doctor for a
blood test. Craving ice is an indication of iron deficiency. If it was
just a one time thing, it's probably nothing.

relax! It melts slowly and goes right thru you! THIRST is a big thing early
on and your body is just trying to get in all the water it can. I ate ice
too early on, dont force things just let the ice melt some. stop if it gets
uncomfy!

More than likely it is nothing to worry about. But, they do often say that
people who crave and eat ice may have an iron deficiency. You might want
to get it checked out if it continues. Good luck!!

In the beginning I ate tons of ice...but not because I craved it...because
I got bored with drinking water...and the ice made me feel like I was
keeping busy. Unless you are seriously craving ice I wouldn't worry about
it being a low iron issue. Ice is just another avenue for getting in your
fluids. LAP RNY 12/22/05
