Question:
Should I consider a revision??
I had surgery March 2002 and lost 80 pounds. I became pregnant in July 2002 (though we were using 2 types of birth control) and I gave birth to a wonderful son in March 2003. I didn't gain much weight during the pregnancy and lost 17 after his birth. The problem is I can't lose any weight and seem to be gaining. I see my surgeon tomorrow and I just want to know if this is something I should discuss with her. I also think I have an ulcer developing as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! =) — Hazel R M. (posted on June 5, 2003)

definitely issue your concerns to your surgeon. Can't hurt and may help!

Definitely discuss the concerns with your surgeon. Your profile provides
no indication though of why you are not losing weight now that the baby is
born. What are you eating, how many calories, how often, are you
exercising ,drinking tons of water every day etc? A revision might not be
the answer unless there is something mechanically wrong with your surgery.

Hi Cindy: Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions -I eat 2-3 small
meals a day, with 2 snacks. Sometimes, I eat 2 meals and sometimes I don't
have snacks. I have been really watching what I eat but I'm still not
losing. I might drop a pound here or there but nothing substantial. In
fact, I should have said that I lost 23 pounds after the baby was born and
then gained back 7. I walk 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes. I am trying
to increase my exercise but it's been tough being up most of the night with
our little guy (not that I mind). I almost wonder if my body is still out
of sync because of the hours I am keeping and the fact that I am not
resting enough. I drink more than 64 oz. a day and do not drink soda or
carbonated drinks. I have also had some issues with a possible issue, which
I had prior to the pregnancy but did not bother me at all while I was
pregnant. Now, it's flaring up again. I hope they'll be able to answer
some of my concerns. I'll follow up with all of you on Monday. Have a
great weekend! =)

I should have said: "I have also had some issues with a possible
ulcer, which I had prior to the pregnancy but did not bother me at all
while I was pregnant." Sorry. =)

Hazel, from the info furnished so far, you may not be eating enough.
Especially if you are breast feeding which is more calories going out, you
may not be taking in enough and if its not enough, the body is thinking
that you are trying to starve me and it will hold onto the weight that is
left. Try eating 5-6 small meals a day, mostly protein based, to include a
protein shake a day, so that you are fueling the body every 2-3 hours with
something good. Calories should be somewhere between 1000-1200 I'm
guessing. Your water sounds good. As for exercise, continue to try to
increase it but try getting some cardio to help burn calories. Walking
should be at a very fast pace-you have to get the heart rate up or its not
doing you any good. I'll be interested in hearing what the surgeon
says-you can always E-mail me too. BTW, congrats on the little one!!
