hi i'm 9 months out and have gotten sick a couple times since surgery. i
talked to my surgeon about meds. i was able to take tylenol or tylenol
cold, nyquil and dayquil. stay away from motrin, ibuprofen, naproxen,
aspirin. Just make sure u take the correct dose. If your worried about
dosage amounts start off with half a dose and see if ur okay. if ur really
unsure call ur surgeon. good luck.

I take liquid Tylenol "Warming Cough and Sore Throat". It works
really well. There is also a Liquid Tylenol "Night-time" that is
good. I'd stay away from things like the large Nyquil or Dayquil capsules
- aside from being too much alcohol for your system - they are way too big
for the opening into your intestines.

I was told any type of Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is ok. I'm in the same boat
as you. I have a terrible cough, cold, fever. Personally I think I got the
flu. Halls has sugar free cough drops. They work very well. My brother is a
diabetic and he has this stuff called diabetic tussin. I dunno if that's
actually ok so I haven't taken it myself, but I am planning to call my doc
on Monday to get their advice.
Good luck, hope you feel better.

Remember the H1N1 is rampant right now. My son and his family and my
daughter and her son all have it. A word to the wise, if you are running
fever and have a rough cough, go to the dr. within 48 hours or they can not
help you. After the 48 hours, the medication will not help you so you have
to wait it out. It has severe fatigue, severe headaches (they don't last
long but can make you sit down in a hurry when they do hit) and fever,
especially in the evenings. All it takes to determine if you have it is a
nose swab and 10 minutes. Something to think about since it is in the
schools as well as people at work, shopping etc.

Thanks for all of your help - I teach in a school where we had the H1N1 -
so I am going to urgent care! Love that so many of you took time to offer
suggestions - glad to know I am not in this thing alone.

My surgeon was a guest speaker at a WLS Summit a few months ago. He
operates at a Center of Excellence and trains other surgeons how to perform
WL surgery.
According to him, NSAI's are no more dangerous in WLS patients than in the
normal population. He prefers Advil (ibuprofen). He calls it a
"wonder drug". He says that Naprocin is more likely to cause
problems than ibuprofen.
I hope that helps. God Bless.

The problem with motrin is blood thinning and ulcers so steer clearof them.
I am not sure why a doctor would not recognize this risk.

I am 6 weeks out and came down with a terrible head cold last night and
feel terrible...I did call my drs nurse which was of NO help to me at all
called my nutritionist and she said tylenol chewable cold but i couldnt
find that at wal-mart told me to stay away from the liquid bc of sugar so i
got the tylenol multi symptom cold dye free anyway and called Tylenol and
according to them he said there was splenda as well as sugar in the
medication but that it was 4.5 grams of sugar per 6 tsp. I took an ounce
just now as I have GOT to have some relief as my head feels like it is a
vice and going to explode but i was told to stay away from anything else
that all I could take was tylenol. Is this really true?? Nutritionist even
said I couldnt take Thera flu bc of sugar they have a 3 gram rule no more
then 3 grams of fat or 3 grams of sugar... Hope this helped anyone who had
the same questions I did.
