I understand there is a "revision" surgery for people like your mom. The surgery is performed through a tube down the patient's throat. Tell her to check with her doctor.

As far as I know, she can not get the lap band. She should see if she qualifies for the ROSE procedure. (Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endoscopic). It's a very simple procedure. A tube is inserted in the throat to the stomach. It creates folds in the stomach to make it smaller. People have been having great results with it. It is only for patients that have had gastic bypass over 2 years ago. They had to have successfully lost weight and then gained back at least 50% of that weight. Tell her to Google the ROSE procedure, she will find a lot of helpful information. It is done as an outpatient and is very low risk. It is supposed to be much cheaper and safer than a revision. Tell her good luck and she needs to do whatever she has to to get back on track.

do you know what her original weight loss surgery was? Some types require a certain type of revision. The ROSE procedure is probably a good choice. Good Luck and God Bless you and your mother, vinnigirl, retired RN

I had a VGB ( gastric stapling) back in 1980, which worked great, went from 242 down to 107. Kept off the weight for ten years, in a bad relationship, perfed my staple line so I had it taken down, I am scheduled for a revision surgery on March 16th. It will be laproscpic but extensive due the injuries caused to my stomach. I guess it is really up to the surgeon which waythey go, but my doctor reccommended a gastric bypass, I assume RNY, go in for my H&P on the 25th will know more then. Good luck and God bless.

I had the ROSE procedure on Dec 30th 2008 about 5-6 weeks ago I have lost 15 lbs so far it has definetly restricted my eating I can only eat 1/4-1/2 cup of food depending on the consistence. Just like I was 5 yrs ago with my first RNY. Go online and look for the Rose procedure it will tell you everything you need to know. It is done by scope with general anesthesia. It takes about 3 hrs. I had no pain went to work the next day. I did have alot of gas because of the co2 they use. I just chewed gas x and it worked great.
