Question:
How much time did you miss from work with lapro RNY?
If all goes well, how much time can I expect to lose from work with the lapro RNY procedure? — troggdog73 (posted on January 29, 2009)

A week or two. The surgery and recovery time was a breeze.

I drive a desk (advertising). I took 2 weeks off and glad I did. But if I
had to go back, I could of in 2-3 days after I got home from the hospital.

I took two weeks off, and went back part time for two weeks. I had short
term disability.

I had my surgery on 12/30/2008, I stayed out of work for 3 weeks. I too
could have gone back probably after a few days, but staying up the the
drinking and protein was not easy for me. I started eating soft foods
after 2 weeks and I took the 3rd week off to get acustomed to what I needed
to eat. I have been back to work for 2 weeks now and doing great. I think
it really depends on you, you should wait until you go back for your first
post op appointment with your doctor to make sure you are OK. You cannot
lift anything over 10 pounds either for awhile. Hope this helps and is not
too much information. = Teresa

My surgeon wants me back at work in a week. I'm still checking in to short
term disability, just in case there are any compliations, but I expect to
be back at my desk the next week.

It totally depends on what you do for your work. I was out of the hosital
on Friday and still taught my Sunday school class on Sunday. My 9-5 job is
as a daycare provider so I had my assistant here with me to do the lifting
but I was still able to feed and diaper change and such. So it all depends
on you. If there is away with your job to take 2-3 weeks off but be able to
come back early if you do good would be great. Well good luck and God
Bless.

I was off for 6 weeks only because where I work I can not come back with
any restrictions. So when they said I couldn't lift over a certain weight
for a while they would not let me return. I felt able to return but I also
work in a prison so you have a risk of getting hit in the stomach so I was
glad for the extra time.

I was out for three weeks. My procedure was perfect with no complications.
I probably could have gone back after two weeks but my surgeon would not
approve it. I was told that three weeks is the standard for RNY.

I was out a total of 8 working days (including the 3 days in the hospital).
Felt fine going back to work but I drive a desk as well and that makes
life a bit easier.

I felt like going back 2 wks out... but because I have to lift heavy
library books I had to wait a month, until my surgeon faxed my employer to
document that I could lift 10 lbs again.

I just had surgery on 12/30. Had 10 more days off and went back to teaching
middle school. The hardest part was getting the nutrition part down. I was
low on energy until I figured out how to get the most protein. Study your
diet and get that worked out! Keep reading to be prepared! Good luck--you
should do fine.
