Question:
Need snack ideas.

Hi everyone, I need a few suggestions, please. I have a desk job and I need to know a few things that I might be able to keep at my desk to eat/snack in the mornings that are with protein and not carbs. I sometimes eat oatmeal or a bannana and natural pb with cinnamon and raisins. But these 2 things get old after a while. Also, I am finding that I am going back to the evening snacking routine. I am a year and 10 months out of lap ryn and I do not have the dumping issues. So a cookie here and there does not bother my pouch (unfortunately). Thanks for any and all suggestions. Take care. A handful of nuts, such as almonds or walnuts, well-chewed. I buy bags of frozen Blueberry/Rasberry/Blackberries and partially thaw out a serving; delicious. A low-fat cheese stick. carrot sticks with natural peanut or almond butter. I've heard others mention dried Wasabi Peas as a crunchy snack, but haven't tried them. Carrot sticks with Hummus. Roll-up some low-sodium deli meat slices, maybe with a sliver of low-fat cheese. Low-fat cottage cheese with cherry tomatoes. Low-sugar Yogurt. Fiber One Cereal as a dry crunchy snack, or mixed in Yogurt. Bumble Bee brand Tuna in Tomato Basil flavor; it's very savory and delicious. That's about all I can think of; some of these things may not sound like traditonal snacks, but most tradtional snacks are bad for us, and we need to re-think what can be a snack, lol. Best wishes!

tuna or tuna salad rolled up in a bibb or boston lettuce leaf, almonds (sliced), low fat cheese stick kind that kids eat is really good, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding cups, stallone pudding cups (GNC stores sell them), cold pieces of chicken (sliced, or cubed). I will have the same problem as I have a desk job. I haven't had my surgery yet, but after seeing your pictures and how wonderful you look I can't wait for 7 Oct 08. If I hear of any differnt snacks I will wtire to you. Take care and be well, Mich44 or mrs.

I keep almonds & pistacios, packaged tuna (the pouches of flavored stuff) at my desk. I am lucky enough to be where there is a frig close by so I keep string cheese, yougurt & cottage cheese on hand. We also have a microwave so I keep soups (w/added protein powder). If you have a lunch box/insulated bag with a chill pack (or ice) you could keep some cold things on hand as well. For breakfast I am ususally too tight to eat so I do coffee with flavored protein powder like french vanilla

Raw, organic almonds are a great choice. The old tried and true celery stick is also great. I also sometimes take the highest quality meal replacement bar and cut it into small chunks to be eaten throughout the day. You can have different flavors to keep it non-boring. I love our chocolate dipped honey peanut bar, and the yogurt covered oatmeal raisin. Spread through the entire work day, it's a great way to maintain blood sugar levels and energy.

I like to chew on some jerky. It is good and chewy and it has protein in it too which is a plus. I like the dried fuit and some sunflower seeds and soy nuts are good too.

Hard boiled eggs, cubed chicken breast, or a protein shake are good choices. Nuts too, but you have to be careful with the portion because of the calories and fat content. If you really feel you need an evening snack save some of the protein from dinner for this or have a protein shake. Sugar-free jello or iced green tea (unsweetened) are what I like in the evening.

Hi, I'm almost 6 mos post-op and I too have a desk job. It can be hard to keep on track with the multitude of unhealthy snacks floating around our office. However, I snack on some of the following: 1 piece of Cabot reduced fat cheese (6 grams of protein) and 5 whole wheat crackers; one 4 oz. cup of low fat yogurt (3 grams of protein) and half a bag of soy crisps (4.5 grams of protein); 1/2 a banana and a low fat yogurt smoothie (5 grams of protein). I also add the Special K protein water mix to 2 bottles of water each day (5 grams of protein each). I prefer the Iced Tea flavor. Hope this helps some! Good luck to you!
