Question:
I'm 3 weeks post op and can eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese...is this normal?
I am only doing this two times per day with some smoked salmon that I just chew really well. I feel fine and it takes me a little while but not real long. — Last_Hope (posted on March 16, 2006)

I don't like cottage cheese so I'm guessing that a half cup is'nt much.
After all cottage cheese is'nt dense. Now if you could eat half a cup of
meat at three weeks, that may be to much.

You are on track. Cottage cheese is mostly curds that if chewed well
amount to nothing. I myself could not eat protein of any type for 5 weeks
and I didn't make half cup of anything until after 8 weeks. I did realize
early on that density of the food item would determine how full I got. I
can eat large amounts of well chewed fruits and vegetables but only small
amounts of protein. As long as you keep this in mind and follow your
surgeon protocal for recovery you should be fine. I drank large amounts of
milk at this time due to the fact I could not find a protein shake I could
tolerate. Milk had all the protein and fats that my doctor wanted me to
have during recovery.
