Question:
How long before I can begin taking pills again?
I am currently taking liquid Zoloft and my "shrink" would like me to start taking the pills as soon as I can. Does anyone know the time period after surgery (I am only 2 weeks out) that you can start taking pill? — col381 (posted on November 20, 2005)

Consult with your surgeon. I had my surgery three weeks ago and contracted
pneumonia. I have to take pills, but of course, I cut them in half.

Ask your surgeon. I told him that I needed to take my paxil as soon as
possible and I started it back up the third day after surgery. I just
crush it up and add it to my protein shakes.

My Dr. had me on pills within the first week or so. I had no problem taking
them as long as they were small. I am about 6 months out and down 93 lbs. I
feel great and can take larger pills now. Its all worth it. Just take it
slow.

Hi
If your pills are smaller than a regular asprin, you will be fine,
if they are bigger than that, cut them in half. Stay away from
any Gel caps or Capsuls for awhile, but small pills should be
just fine. I know that Zoloft & paxil are small & they will not
get stuck.

I started my regular pills, including WElbutrin, just after I got home from
the hospital.

I began pills right away, some, oral pain meds, in the hospital.

I was taking my zoloft cut in 1/2 approx 2 days after surgery while still
in the hospital. My surgeon and 'shrink" knew my concerns about being
off my psych meds. I'm currently 3 months out and have just started
swallowing them whole. It will depend on the swelling of your pouch and you
shouldn't have a problem if you crush them or cut them up. Good luck.
