Question:
Which foods yielded you the best success?
I'm 14 weeks out post op from Lap RNY 9/3/02 and I'm interested in hearing from those more *experienced* post ops that have had tremendous weight loss...what do you attribute your success to (in which foods and in what amounts)? — yourdivaness (posted on December 14, 2002)

I only lost 150#, but it left me at 112#, so it seems pretty substantial to
me. I have a distal RNY, but that doesn't make the LOSS easier, only the
maintenance a tinybit. Even so, the stomach arrangement is the same for
both of us. How I think I lost. I do protein shakes, made with water. In
the beginning, I did 2 per day (60g), 6 one oz meals, no milk, no sugar, no
grazing, no drinking with meals. Today, at 8 yrs, I do 6+ protein drinks
per day (a full set of vites, not the Flintstones & Tums), 4 meals,
closer to normal size, (Ok, normal kid size), no milk, no sugar, no
grazing, no drink with food. If I change any of that formula, I gain. So
simple. Instant zapping with the Ouch Gun.

I am 7 months post op down 119 pounds. That is 21 pounds below goal. I
have gone from a size 24 to a 4. I never had one plateau. My surgeon says
that I am off the charts with my weight loss. I eat anything I want,
including carbs, just in smaller amounts. I do eat my protein first. For
example, I will eat a pork chop then some of the potato and veggies. Or if
I have spaghetti and meatballs, I will eat the meatball first then some of
the pasta. I take a Real Meals shake everyday. This gives me 60 grams of
protein (I split into into two mini shakes because we only absorb 30 gr at
a time) The high amount of protein prevents my body from going into
starvation mode and lowering my metabolic rate. Instead it will actually
raise your metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn fat) Because it is
100% whey protein with whey peptides it is absorbed 100% immediately. My
body does not need to create peptides to break down the protein. It also
has lean muscle stimulators to prevent the sagging skin. I have no sagging
skin. My stomach is a little squishy but after four kids I wouldn't expect
rock solid abs but it does not sag. It has a special combination of biotin
and nutrients to prevent hair loss. I have had no hair loss. Plus over 40
other vitamins including the b12 and calcium. I have never needed
additional supplements of these. Some people say they don't need the extra
supplements but it has worked really well for me.
