Question:
Has anyone chose to use protein supplements past 6 weeks?

Anyone out there who has continued to use protein supplements *alone* past 6 weeks post op? I'm curious to know if you are using the protein supplements by themselves or with your meals (veggies, fruits, nuts, grains, etc).    — yourdivaness (posted on November 26, 2002)

I am at 10 weeks and I drink a 8oz Protein powder & non-fat milk drink almost every morning. I can't seem to tolerate solid food in the a.m. (couldn't pre-surgery either).

You asked for alone, but also "with" food. So, I'll throw my answer out, discard if it isn't what you're looking for. 8 yrs out, still use protein supps, still eat food. Always will.

Almost 9 months post op and still use protein supps everyday. All varieties. Still eat regular food also. Will continue for the rest of my life... variety is the key!

I'm 16 months post-op and eat a protein bar every morning for breakfast, and regular food for lunch and dinner. Three or four days a week I drink a protein shake for my afternoon snack.

Hi H: I use a protein supplement religiously every morning, Designer Whey Protein 35 grams of protein in two scoops mixed with water. In addition, for my meals throughout the day, I will eat turkey lunch meat, ham lunch meat, and a lot of cheese. I cannot tolerate regular chicken or turkey yet, although I am trying turkey today, lol. Cheese was always the easiest. I also love low-fat ricotta cheese, which is low in calories and loaded with protein. I love it! I eat peanuts, peanut butter, and prior to WLS ate no red meat. Now I can eat 1/2 of a pork chop and ham. They go down much easier than chicken or fish. I also love a bit of salad with tuna fish, hard boiled eggs (cannot eat scrambled eggs anymore yet), and a few cheese cubes. Delicious. But it seems I would never be able to get the required 55 grams of protein without the shakes. The small portions I eat do not give me enough. My doctor actually encourages protein shakes, so no problem there. Good luck.
