Question:
how long from referral from pcp to surgery
I know everyone's case is different, but I was just curious if I could get a round about answer as to how long it will take from the time I see my pcp till the surgery. I have medicare/medicaid, so I don't know if that will make my wait longer or not. I'm just trying to learn what I should expect as I go through this journey... — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 28, 2009)

They say plan on 3-4 months after you have seen surgeon on your consult.i
got my referral in oct 08,could not get consult til march.he was that
booked.but after i seen him in march he said look for june or july.i was
held up a couple times which total put me back 1 month and 1 week.i would
have had my surgery if not for the hold ups sometime in 2nd week of june
but actually had surgery july 28th.i was in a bad wreck was one reason.
and it also depends on how quick you can get your nutritionist appointments
and pych appointments taken care of.i tried to knock all those appointments
out during our time off from school on our spring break.
best wishes to you.

HI, I just wanted to let you know that I had my consult June 29th and I had
surgery Aug 6th. With medicare I didn't have to do a long wait and they
approved me the first time although that hardly ever happens. Good luck
you'll do great.

As you can see, everyone is different. I couldn't begin my process until I
had insurance approval but others move along in the process and get their
approval right before surgery. In my case, I don't see my surgeon until
all prerequsites are completed (i.e., dietician, psychologist, etc). Once I
finally get to the surgeon its about 5 weeks out. So for me, process is
really like 3.5 months total.
