Question:
Poor health
I am on blood pressure medication along with medication for being insulin resistant. If I were to have the Vertical Sleeve would I be healthy or still have complications? — for_my_baby (posted on August 29, 2009)

I had the VSG March 2 of this year. Within 3 months, I was off all blood
pressure meds. I didn't take insulin resistant meds, but I probably should
have. I am having further blood tests for that this next week, but my guess
is that it will be much better because of the high protein, low carb diet I
have been on that is recommended to all weight loss surgery patients. Like
all of the surgeries, how well it works depends on you, and you need to
understand that all surgery involves risk, but the VSG has a lower risk
than some of the other proceedures. Because of the weight loss, (110 so
far for me), overall health and vitality is improved with the possible
minor exceptions of zits and some hair loss! :P Use the link above the
dark blue line at the top of the page to research surgeons and then ask
lots of questions. God bless you.

After my RNY surgery in March 2009 I went from five blood pressure meds to
one and from 220 units of insulin per day to about 22-25 units. You may not
be off all meds but with weight loss you should be off some or the dosages
will be greatly reduced.

I was one three blood pressure meds. I never went back on them after
surgery. I monitor my bp everyday, but it has been great.
