Question:
Question about pre-op testing..
I know I am just probably being silly... however I had my pre-op testing done 10/25/2007, my surgery is scheduled on 11/08/07.. today is 11/04/2007.. everytime my phone rings.. Im just sure it is my doc office calling to tell me that there is something wrong with my blood work and I won't be able to have the surgery. From Oct 25 until now... is that enough time for them to get my bloodwork back and call if there is a problem?? Has anyone ever showed up to the hospital and they sent them home because of blood work? — elaina_78 (posted on November 3, 2007)

I would think that they would have had plenty of time to let you know if
something was wrong. My doctor's office did my lab work on Thursday and
had it back on Monday; however, they didn't call. I asked them when I went
in to take care of the financial part a few days before the surgery. It
would seem to me that everything is fine at this point. If you're really
nervous about it, call and ask. Your fear is completely normal. Everyone
of us is very anxious to say the least when we're going through that
pre-surgical process.
Good luck on the 8th. You'll be glad you did it.

SOunds like me before I had the surgery. I just "knew" something
was going to go wrong to stop it. Unless your a real sick person you should
be fine. They would have let you know by now. Best of Luck!!

i'm pretty sure the way you are feeling is 100% normal. i was anxious too,
but they have had plenty of time to review your blood work and if something
was wrong, more than likely they would have contacted you by now in order
to allow time to fix the problem without cancelling your surgery. to ease
your mind you can always call your surgeon's office and just ask! good luck
with your surgery.... Holly

Hi, I think your in the clear, (I have worked in Dr.'s Offices my whole
life, Labs are generally back within 72 hours and usually 48. I am sure all
is clear with your results or the Doctor would have called by now. No, they
would not wait until the day of proceedure. Good Luck and try to relax!!
Your going to be just fine! But, if you can't relax, do like the other
member said and just call the nurse at your Dr.'s office to clear your
mind. :O) See you on the looser's bench! :O)

Elaina, you are embarking on one of the most difficult aspects of weight
loss. That is fear. The mind is a tough thing to train, but you have to
realize that your doctors should have the results of your blood work before
they set the date. If they didn't, then they fully suspect that there is
not a problem to move forward. As you begin your weight loss journey, I
really encourage you to key in on this issue for yourself. You will visit
this very issue, sometimes daily in your weight loss. When you are not
able to run to food, you will run to fear. Am I eating enough? Am I
dying? Did I make the right decision? And then there is the questions:
Where can I compromise? I don't really need to exercise do I? The surgery
is enough to do the trick right? Fear is everywhere. Face the truth in
any given area, and you will be fine. The truth about your blood work is
it should be ok, but if you are not certain, call them and ask. Put your
fears to rest. Just know this is not the last time you will have to deal
with your fears. A simple call will answer this question and set your mind
at ease. Best to you. Patricia P.

Calm down and breathe, your blood work is probably already in your doctors
hands. Pre-op blood work is done the same day so if there would have been a
problem you would have known by now. I am a nurse in pre-admission testing
and this is usually the policy everywhere, surgeons always get their
results first! Take care and good luck.
