Question:
What foods do you have to give up if you have the lap band?
I have heard you totally can never eat bread again. Is there anything else that you can't digest after you have lap band? — Daisylou (posted on October 19, 2006)

I had to give up all breads, pasta and rice. As well as anything rough I
can't eat it. I had my surgery 17 months ago.

What do you mean by anything rough? Can you eat raw veggies?
What about tortillas?

Well that's not exactly true. I believe it depends on your body. My
partner eats anything shes wants, including bread and she was 3 years last
month. It may take you some time to get there, but you can eat bread again
-- you have to be mindful though that your pouch is only so big and can
only take so much. When she buys a hoagie and steak and cheese sandwich
she can only eat about a 1/4th of the sandwich, so it takes here about 3 to
4 days to eat the sandwich -- that's what eating bread will do to you.

I've never consistently had a problem with bread. It only gets stuck if I
eat too fast or if I'm too restricted. We're all different. The only
thing I've had to give up completely is .. get this .. leftover stir-fried
chicken. Fresh stir-fry chicken is fine. Chicken cooked any other way is
fine. Reheated, stir-fried chicken is the only thing I can't eat. Wierd,
huh? :D Don't worry, your body will let you know, and it may be nothing
like what you expect.

can i just share my reasoning with you.....why eat bread anyways to me it
would lead to a sandwich which leads to things we are not suppose to eat
anyway and you are getting nothing good out of bread so if you can
elimanate it why not....to me it would just lead to eating other
things...maybe i am wrong but thats my way of thinking

I had the gastric bypass 4 years ago and 2 of my sister-in-laws just had
the lap band within the past 2 years and we are all able to eat bread.
What we all do is if it is a roll we gut the bread otherwise I toast the
bread. Usually though if I choose to have a hamburger I take the top or
bottom off. Also Pepperidge Farms sells "Very Thin" bread that
tastes great and I have that. Just eat it very slow and eat it in
moderation
