Question:
Am I eating too much?

For instance, I eat 1 piece of toast with 1/2 piece of american cheese & 1 egg. This seems like alot to me, I am 8 months post op. Just the past few weeks I feel like I am eating too much and I am not losing. Not gaining either though. Any advice would help. I am so scared to get big again. My family thinks I am nuts. I have lost 132. Thanks.    — TraciB06 (posted on March 29, 2006)

well my Doc told me that after awhile the pouch is gettin a lillte bigger and you be able to eat a lil more tahn before. Just wtach out and stop when you full. That you lost no weight latly I would not think about it to muc. My doc told me you will have ups and down it is even possible that you gain 3-4 pound again don't panic. And if you really want to make sure what taht you not eat to much calories. I heard that if you eat 700 or less you should lose more weight. But I am not a doc and i am just 2 week post op and maybe sombody have some better advise

Traci- yes the pouch will expand some however it also sounds like you might be on a plateau- your body needs to catch up with all that has been going on- stick with your diet, drink your water and exercise weight will once again start to come off when the rest has evened out. Often times a plateau is the body's way of protecting itself.

Hi Traci, I am 10 months post op as of 10-01-06 you have lost so much more weight than I have:) I do have days where I can eat more and days when I can eat only a little. So I would not panic if I were you. I know it can be very frusterating with everything that changes with this surgery. But your body will go into the mode of not losing any weight. I think it is just preparing your body to play catch up with the weight loss. Would love to have a pen pal to email back in forth. if anyone is interested please email me at [email protected]. Th thanks Joann and I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

Girl, I had to comment because your question made me laugh...I'm just starting but I "feel" you. Congradulations on the tremendous wieght lost of 132 lbs. And try to follow your doctor's instructions plus keep the fluids going. Take care-Frederica

Ok sweetie, calm down...i am 9 months out and am down 126 lbs. You are not eating too much...you just feel that way because we can tolerate food a little better than we used to. I have noticed since I do eat several times a day to get the calories in...the weight is dropping about 5 lbs a week or every two weeks..you have to get the calories in so the body has something to burn and does not go back into starvation mode. Believe me you are NOT eating enough to lose the weight. Each morning I eat 3 pieces of bacon, sometimes one egg and one piece of toast..and then maybe dinner..at night I eat mostly fruits...it is true, you have to put the calories in to fuel your body to lose. I have found this out and I mean I am dropping five pounds here and there...I am here if you want to work together on this :) Hugs

Hi Traci - I agree with Nora- its sounds crazy- but you have to up your calories- especially if you are exercising, and I bet you are- with that great weight loss- I have lost 95lbs since 8/15/05 and I hit a plateau- but this is different. Weigh training +Exercise raises your metabolism to burn up more calories- the more you train + exercise- the faster your metabolism becomes. My surgeon gave me a metabolism test- and mine is 52%faster than avg for my age.I'm in my40s. (ask your doc if he can do a test like this) ANd also bump up your protein intake- by 1 shake a day- before or after you 3xercise- your body needs the protein for recovery and repair- and I will bet you- your scale begins moving within a week. Email me if you want any help. Good luck! Donna
