Hi Lori! Congratulations on your surgery. I'm not sure which surgery you had, but I can tell you that I was instructed to only eat bib lettuce until I was 3 months post op because its the easiest lettuce to digest. Honestly, you should follow whatever your doctor told you. I just recently began eating salads (I'm 14 weeks post op RNY) and have a little difficulty with the digestion. Good luck with everything and trust me, it gets a lot easier!

Hi! I'm about 15 weeks out and I love salads. I also wanted to try salads early but trust me....it's not worth it. I know that we are all different but for me it was so hard to digest and it felt horrible. It will get better!

I am 7 wks out, and had a Taco salad last week; I did fine with it. My instructions after 2 wks was to add new foods, eat as tolerated. I didn't try a salad until last week...and granted it was more meat than lettuce. You really can't hurt yourself..if it doesn't sit well, it will just come back up...if it were me, I'd try one...just go slow and save room for your protein. Now chicken is another matter. I have tried it 3 times, and it just gets stuck and I have to get rid of it. But I will try it again at some point. Good luck.

Here goes my two cents, I agree with Fran, you need to ask your Dr or NUT, I was on a very restrictive diet until I lost 75% of my weight. After I lost my 75% of my weight, I was still on a very restricitve diet. I am underweight and I still eat what they tell me to eat. No sugar, no simple carbs and not too many complex carbs. I am going to stretch my neck out there again and say, I just do not understand how some Dr's do not give their patients a food plan to follow, I am sorry. To me it is criminal, here we all did major surgery with major life changes. We gastric bypass folks need all the help we can get, if the Dr's aren't here for us, we can be like a fish out of water. I am not ragging on you I hope you understand, but I just do not understand how Dr's send you out to pasture with no instructions. I got a book when I had my surgery, I call it my RNY bible. I have read that book at least 6 times in this past year and I refer to it all the time.

Hi Lori, I am 6 weeks post op and yesterday I tried a salad for the first time. It wasn't a lot but it worked out well. Romaine, onions, eggs, tuna, cheese, chew chew chew. Try it!

I had the VSG surgery and didn't really eat salads well till I was about 7 months out. I just didn't digest them well. Now I am fine. Talk to your doctor and see what your new stomach can handle.

I started to eat salad items around that ti me but make sure that you are eating your proteins on your plate first. Now keep in mind that you might get the "runs" so donn't eat to much.
